Hey all i got a problem with a certain army that I frequently come up against,

this friend of mine plays the Imps while I play SM (just normal SM not those other varients) but when we do our 1000 pt matches he brings in
around 14 or so Lascannons, bunch of them LR tank varients and some vehicular thingy with some guy call pasque in it
how the heck do I counter with all that Lascannon death stuff of sort lookin my way?

If you could post his approximate list, followed by yours, that would be very helpful. Can't really say anything else otherwise.

Though, just an initial knee jerk analysis...I would say that aside from a leman russ or two, its all infantry, to afford 14 lascannons. I think this may be one of the very few times where assault marines would be worth their weight in gold. Otherwise, drop a lot of drop pods with tacticals inside, combat squad them on landing, and start rapid firing/BP+assaulting like mad.

Cover saves, drop pods full of sternguard, popping smoke on vehicles. Guard lascannons aren't THAT scary tbh. Take the humble rhino. If a full Heavy weapons team shoots at it, that's 1.5 hits, and 1 of those will penetrate.

Well half the time it doesn't kill or immobilize you. If you have extra armor (if you're melee centric) he can't even slow you down half the time. Add a cover save from proper movement/smoke on there, now he needs 4 HWteams to kill your rhino if you moved it right. He will probably stop shooting at it once it can't move or shoot, but even so, you're looking at multiple lascannon shots to kill that rhino. BS3 isn't terribly accurate. If we're talking about a Land Raider, that's pretty tough to kill, even with lascannons.

I think your best bet is gonna be drop pods full of sternguard popping down behind his tanks with a buttload of combimeltas. Boom, two tanks gone, virtually guaranteed if he put em close enough together that two combat squads out of a well placed drop pod are in melta range. Next turn, any survivors hose down infantry, denying cover save. Awesome.

Well you could take bikes, they can shoot + assault, and can get a 3++ cover save.

Well I got:
A chapter master, captain, 2 Tac squads, a predator annihilator, devastator squad and a attack bike

He's got:
Command squad
couple of toop squads (can't really tell much about that)
and a bunch of heavy weapons teams that he brings in about 14 lascannons and a couple of other things, for vehicles he's got a couple of main battle tanks, a executor, and some hellhound varient of sort with some chem cannon of sort and he's got a tank with the imps tank commander pasque

You may want to check if that is a legal army again. To take HWT teams, he needs to take a platoon. So, he needs to have 2 troop squads at least, and a platoon command squad. However, the entire platoon counts as a single troop choice, so he needs another troop choice for a legal army. Also, what is the command squad in the list - platoon or company? If it is PCS, he still needs HQ for his army. If it is CCS, he still needs PCS.

Also, check his heavy choices. If he has 2 MBTs, an Executioner, and Pask (probably in a Vanquisher), that is a ton of points and too many tanks unless the 2 MBTs are in a squad. In any case, we are talking about 300 for the MBTS, 190 for the executioner, and about 200 for Pask in a Vanquisher. That is 690 pts right there. The HWTs with lascannons are 105 each. He must have at least 2 HWTs to get anywhere near 14 LCs without vendettas, so 210 total plus 690 is 900 pts. Each infantry squad of the compulsory ones is 50 pts, so 100 pts plus 900 is 1000 pts. And he still needs to buy the PCS at 30, and an HQ (at least 50). He also would need at least one commissar to keep the guardsmen in line and that is 35 pts. So, he is over budget.

So, check points and legality.

About winning, it will be hard to outshoot him - that is what IG does best. So, you need to get in CC as quickly as possible. Guardsmen are weak, so even tactical SM can kill them easily in CC. The SM have many ways to deliver troops into CC. Pick what you like best. Just make sure you have PF and/or meltas to kill the tanks.

Yea no joke check his points. even facing a legal list you are going to loose every game if you aren’t able to close the gap. You can’t outshoot him so don’t try.

He has a lot of las because he needs a lot of las to even hit your troops. If your in cover a lot of it will just bounce off.

The russes are going to eat you alive if you don’t have cover or transports. When playing the across the EXE, keep your troops well spaced and it will drop its effectiveness substantially.

The banewolf is rough on meq. But the range kills it every time.

I agree with all above, check his points, it looks like he is way over you.
If his points are good, invest in transports, pods or rhinos.
I would almost say get a hand full of SS/TH termys in a land raider and roll over him. That works on a lot of people that revert to questionable builds or tactics.

At the 1k points level, a five man ss/th squad and a landraider is almost half your points. It might work, but could just as likely leave the rest of the army very vulnerable.

I'd go with assault marines as well. Combined with drop podding sternguard and tactical squads, you can blitzkreig him off the board.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

This......

A marine bike army will decimate an infantry army at 1k pts. Just make sure to turbo boost turn 1. Oh, and bring meltas to melt his vehicles too.
