Hey all

Thinking of getting into Kings of War by Mantic games.

Quick question, is the starter box worth buying, are the rules still the upto date ones for the system?

cheers!

The starter box is definitely worth the price point to miniatures ratio - as long as you'd plan on using them all. Split with a friend for an ever better deal.

The last box I picked up came with the most current rules, but they also put the same rules up on the website for free, so you'll always have the most up to date there.

I got 4 boxes of the starter set, it's brilliant, can't go wrong with over 100 models for £40.

If you want to get it even cheaper, total wargamer sells it at 25% off:

Mantic updates their rules and all of their army lists once every year, and post them on their website as free downloads.

Did you only get 4 sets so you could make a useful unit out of the 5 random spare dwarfs they stick in the box?

One of the army sets does the same thing, I dont know why they only do it with dwarfs...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Heh, no... I did it because it gave me two 3000-point warhammer fantasy armies for about £60 each, new-in-box.

I got it when they had the launch deal with 10 extra revenants in each box, so 464 models total.

So, I paid 26p per model... I wanted the undead more than the dwarves, but when the models are that cheap, who cares if they're perfect? They look really good as a unit, nicely big and beefy and that's the most important thing.

A few years ago I was planning a new empire army around the new greatswords until they were launched at £2.50/model. As nice as the models are I refuse to pay that much, when it's a choice between getting 10 models from mantic or 1 model from GW there really is no contest. I'm reasonably well off, but paying such a large amount for small bits of plastic that cost pennies to produce doesn't sit well with me.

I've also found that I quite like the dwarves now that I've got them and they will be the first army that I paint up.

They are bringing out a new version of Morgoth's Revenge at some point later this year, with 2 armies equally balanced in terms of points values. No idea what will be in it, but the current set is such a good deal (£10 cheaper than the army boxes, with a lot more models in it) I'd be surprised if it lasted.
