So ive been playing warhammer 40k for quite a while, and have gathered a massive amount of Orks along the way. I have over 5000pts in Orks and can probably make anything from bits or proxy. Ive been faced with a dilemma, im going up against Tyranid, but only 1000 pts, The last game we played i used:
2 dreadz
2 big meks
2 squads of three killa kans
1 lobba, or kannon.
I was doing quite well untill his Mawloc or Trygon came out and killed three of my killa Kans... Which i assaulted him, underestimating his strengh. How do i kill so many MOnsterous Creatures and live to tell about it...
Another thing I dont want to use speacial charactures.
Ive also used a whole boyz mob and got killed, i won by one capture point, i still chalk that as a loss for he still had too many units on the feild that i couldnt kill.
Please give me some, tactics or army lists that will help. MY tactics normally consist of running to capture points and trying to hold them.

Walkers are really bad vs. monstrous creatures. That's the problem right there. Any walker list matches up poorly against a tyranid godzilla list.
A list with a good amount of transports under a KFF should hold up well. You want lots of boyz for that hidden power klaw. Hidden power fists/klaws (meaning ones wielded by Nobz attatched to boyz, since they can't be targetted separately, unlike ICs) are a good counter vs. monsters. Ideally, at 1000 you'd have 2 battlewagons with 20 boyz inside. You should be able to kill a monster in 1-2 assault phases.
Lootas should do very well, as well as anything with a template.
Fill out the rest however you like, just stay away from walkers.

Played a game the other day against my buddies nids. It was 800 points. He basically had the old nid battleforce which had some extra genestealers I think, and he had a Tyrant and a Prime. I ran this list:
Warboss -PK -TL Shoota -Squig
Lootasx8
Lootasx7
Ork Boyzx30-Shootas, Nob w/PK&BP, Big Shootax3
Ork Boyzx30-Shootas, Nob w/PK&BP, Big Shootax3
I decimated his army early on by turn 2 I killed off the termigaunts, and the genestealers. His warriors and prime ate one group of shootas after heavy shooting and went on to destroy a group of lootas then were shot down by the other. The Warboss and his boyz mob were then attacked by hormagaunts and the tyrant which nerfed their weapon skill to 1. I took out the hormagaunts first then focused on the Tyrant. The constant debuffing of my weapon skill hurt bad, he eventually finished off the unit and warboss and reached the remaining lootas after some shooting with 1 wound and beat the lootas down. I should have one but was a moron and wasn't playing my PKs as power weapons and he kept taking his 2+ armor save against the attacks. If I would have learned to read it would have been over earlier in my favor. At these lower point games though it's worth it to field as many boyz as possible, your opponent is likely not able to deal with them.

Thanks Ill make my list and see how it turns out. With enough meat sheild of boyz and lootas in the rear they should get though anything. Ill let you guys know how it turns out.

So I didnt win... HIs army had a Trygon Prime, two hive gaurd. Termagaunts (the shooty ones and Melee ones), Hive Tyrant, Licktor, 4 something or others... if i guess ill mess it up. They had an ordance...
We played pitched battle, seize the ground.
I fielded two squads of lootas with two heavy bolters each, and a Big mek with a KFF for some cover sv. I had 30 shoota boys and 30 ard boys with a warboss with a uge choppa. My lootas did some work and i was making a lot of saves... more than normal.
He spawned, his trygon in front of my lootas and took out my shoota boys with his hive tyrant and melee gaunts. by turn 2. My Ard boyz reduced to half and ready for Close combat, I killed his 4 things, which i didnt know that IC need to be in Base to Base in order to fight. Oops. He totally wipped me out by turn 5... But at least i was having a good game, so i won. ( I think i need more lucky dice )
Next ill try an all vehicle army with skorchas and burnas with a Battle Wagon and lobbas.... wish me luck!
Why waste a Warboss INT with a Powerclaw, he has STR 7 with a UGE choppa?

No armor saves? And vs toughness 6 hive tyrants and trygons, you still wound on 2s.
I just played a 1500 point game vs a MC heavy nid list. Basically tabled him by my second turn.
I run a trukk with 7 nobs (3 pks), warboss with pk, and big mek with KFF.
Start it next to a battlewagon with 20 shoota boys in it.
First turn trukk goes 19 inches. BW goes 13. The trukk is ~6 inches long, so the BW is well inside the KFF range.
Then its 13 inches, bail out, waaagh, assault. BW squad shoots warriors or some other unit (or the Hive Tyrant to soften up any guards he has with him).
Thats 41 inches minimum assault by turn 2.
Even if the trukk goes down, you still have a KFF protected bunch of pks, and a KFF protected BW w deffrolla on its way. He'll definately still be worried.
As for the rest, lootas can be awesome. Vs a trygon he'll probably always target your backline with him, but he can only shoot (6 shots normal, or 12 for a prime) after deepstriking, so you have a round of shooting to try and bring him down/deal some dmg before he assaults.
As a sidenote, deffkoptas are a great addition to the above, especially if he has warriors. Str 8 vs T4 means instant kills, and will probably redirect a bunch of firepower away from your trukk because of it.

Also, lootas are ok against MC, why only ok? Well thats easy, the MC still gets it armor save, and that shoe horns most of the shots that get through anyways. You want to head stomp a MC with Orks, bring out the fething rokkits. I stick a couple rokkits in every boyz mob, Ill even take a tankbusta mob or 2 depending on how good the nid player is. Then its all about boyz mobs with PK nobz. The boyz basically just soak up wounds while the pk/Nob does his job. And make sure the boyz are shoota boyz, not slugga boyz. Shoota boyz will mulch on the rank and file, while slugga boyz will just die before they get to do anything
And yea, the ONLY time I dont put a PK on a warboss is if theres alot of dreads on the table, then Ill go with the BigChoppa. 6 STR10 PK attacks on the charge? Yes please, and seeing as they are T5, your rarely have to worry about ID, specially if you are smart and dont throw him at things that cause it. Automatically Appended Next Post: *just noticed the kopta thing*
Simply, NO. You want rokkits? Well take rokkit buggies, they are plenty cheap, are armor, and come in squadrons which can be very useful as far as granting cover saves to other units. Zipping around a deffkopta just for the rokkit is to costly.

Lootas can take Big shootas for free with a mek, for free. I used them cause they always have three shots.
He does use a Trygon Prime... gayness, it killed half the squad of Shoota boys before they got into close combat. I think, with the nob squad it pretty point heavy for just jumping in there, id be out numbered by nids, as orks. Ive used this technique before and it didnt far out too well, too many points for nothing good. Ill try it again though, Im ork enough to try anything, ive killed a dreadnaught with grots and the outnumbered rule and then died when it exploded. Does that rule still apply.

Wait, so your taking a mek in your loota squad......to take a free bigshoota. Its weaker and has shorter range, and is almost useless against transports. Stop doing that right now  Seriously there is no good reason to take a mek instead of a loota, the was a pretty good discussion on it a few months ago, and we literally couldnt think of a good reason to do it.
And no there is no out number rule. the only thing youd get out of throwing grots at a dread now, would be to tie it up until they failed their LD and ran off.

I think you might have an old rulebook or something.. And I 2nd what KC said on tankbustas vs. monsterous creatures. I had always thought that they were useless, but decided to give them a shot vs. nids, because someone had lent me theirs. They performed wonderfully.

No he has the right codex, but hes misreading it. THE MEK can take a Bigshoota for free, not the Lootas. And yes, Tankbustas just own MC.

Even if the lootas could take them, why would you? You trade range, ap, and strength for the ability to always get three shots.

In A Trukk
Warboss- Pwr Claw, Eavy Armour, Attack Squig, Cybork
Big Mek- Pwr Claw, KFF, Eavy Armour, Attack Squig, cybork
7x Nobs- 4x Pwr Claws, Eavy Armour, Painboy, Orderly, Cybork
battlewagon 20 shoota boys nob pwr claw 2 rokkits
Tankbustas x15 1 tank hammer nob pwr claw boss pole
3x Warbuggies 1 bigshoota, 1 skorcha, 1rokkit
First turn i lost my battle wagon, double sixes, explodes 1". Second turn gets out his Trygon Prime. He assaults my buggies with ravenours, no hits. Blows up my trukk with his Hive Gaurd, 3 kills on my trukk squad another penitrating 6 explodes 6". I assult his Trygon with my Shoota Boys and Nobs Big Mek and Warboss. I assault his termigaunts with my Tankbusta boys, kill half of them. Shoota boys move toward the objective. Huge melee with his Hive Tyrant, Warriors, Ravenors, and Lictor vs my 4Nobs, Bigmek, Warboss. I won combat after 3 turns in close combat. My tankbustas and shoota boys held 2 objective and i got 2 more kill points than he did. First win in a long time, and now i dont fear the tyranid.
NOTE With enough Power Fist anything can Happen.
