My local store is hoping to host a tournament soon, and i will help in the organization of it. i need some help though....

I HATE THE MISSIONS IN THE RULE BOOK!!! they suck!! we all know this for tournaments. I need a resource where i can get some good, competitive tournament missions. I would really like to use some of the more currently popular 3x missions, where theres multiple objectives for victory ie; #1 objectives, #2 kill points, #3 table quaters. where can i find some of these?? thanks in advance!!

The book missions don't suck at all. They are balanced, fair and what the game is designed for. Players know them and build there armies for them. I and most gamers I know also think they are good fun, although that of course is subjective. The adepticon missions are great but they do increase the already large advantage that msu armies have by increasing the amount of objectives and mitigating kill points.

Well, whatever you do I hope the event is a success. And thank goodness you aren't using some of the truly imbalanced home brew missions I've seen at tournaments.!!!

Actually, the book missions are quite good, and are also the missions that the game was balanced for. I'd recommend keeping them. Most custom missions I've seen have been quite biased.

If you are helping to organize the tournament, I would suggest using one of each type of mission. Do a kill point mission. Do a high amount of objectives (5ish) mission. Do a low amount of objectives (2ish) mission. The great thing about a tourney is that you have the ability to balance multiple missions, you don't have to worry about each mission being "fair."

A balanced army will be able to compete in each scenario. An unbalanced army will have a difficult time in at least one, and it will therefore be difficult to win the entire tournament without a balanced army. Take what you like about the missions and games you have played in the past and try to introduce and/or create missions that have those qualities. If you have time, play a test game or two with the rules you have created. See what works and what doesn't. My friends and I will occasionally play a mission from the battle book, but will modify it in such a way as to make it more fun for us.

And, above all, don't worry. To paraphrase a golf quote: "Even a bad day of wargaming is better than a good day at work."
