Hey all, been a while!
Just whipped up a 2k list to try out the Carcharodons, I loved them the instant I saw them.

Carcharodons 2000 point list, The Red Host
Tyberos The Red Wake, Lord Reaper of the Void 190 points

The Red Brethren (Terminator Assault Squad) (X7 Terminators) 555 Points
Assault Terminators with lightning claws. The squad (including Tyberos) is mounted in a Land Raider Crusader equipped with Hurricane bolters, a twin-linked assault cannon, a multi-melta, and extra armour.

The Devourers (Tactical Squad) (X10 Tactical Marines) 255 points
Tactical squad equipped with meltagun. 4 Marines are equipped with boltguns, 4 are equipped with close combat weapons. The sergeant is equipped with a power fist. The squad is mounted in a drop pod with a deathwind missile launcher.

The Blood Sharks (Tactical Squad) (X10 Tactical Marines) 255 points
Tactical squad equipped with meltagun. 4 Marines are equipped with boltguns, 4 are equipped with close combat weapons. The sergeant is equipped with a power fist. The squad is mounted in a drop pod with a deathwind missile launcher.

The Void Stalkers (Tactical Squad) (X10 Tactical Marines) 255 points
Tactical squad equipped with meltagun. 4 Marines are equipped with boltguns, 4 are equipped with close combat weapons. The sergeant is equipped with a power fist. The squad is mounted in a drop pod with a deathwind missile launcher.

Ancient Cruviel (Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought) 280 points
Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought equipped with twin-linked lascannon, a Dreadnought close-combat weapon with an inbuilt heavy flamer, and smoke launchers. He is mounted in a drop pod with a deathwind missile launcher.

Brother Tashariel (Ironclad Dreadnought) 210 points
Ironclad Dreadnought equipped with a seismic hammer with an inbuilt meltagun, Hurricane bolters, and two hunter-killer missiles. He is mounted in a drop pod with a deathwind missile launcher.

Ideas? Feedback? All appreciated!

No pity! No remorse! No fear!

First of all, since you're using a FW chapter, it would be helpful if you told us what some of this stuff is. I have no idea what Tyberos does, or what a Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought is.

Second, you have two-thirds of your army in Drop Pods, with the remaining third in a single Land Raider. That sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. If you start with the LRC on the table, what happens if your opponent gets first turn? If you reserve it, it might never get a chance to do something useful, and you'll already have your army coming in piecemeal anyway. You also have no mobility once you arrive. Any halfway decent Dark Eldar or mech Blood Angels army will give you fits.

Finally, it looks like you're wasting a lot of points on unnecessary upgrades. I don't remember what a Deathwind launcher costs or what the profile is, but my guess is 20 points for a S5 AP- Large Blast. That Contemptor Dreadnought hopefully has some great abilities I'm not aware of, because it looks like you're paying double what you could for a TL-LC Dreadnought. Also, why mix Bolters and BP/CC Marines? You can't shoot the Bolters and charge. At any rate, you pay 255 for what amounts to an Assault Squad with a Meltagun in a Drop Pod. I realize this probably isn't meant to be a competitive army, but it sounds really frustrating to pay 255 for something that a Blood Angels player can pay 235 for, while getting an extra Meltagun and the ability to move 12" too. I hope the Deathwind and Drop Pod are worth it.

The deathwinds in the pods were actually my attempt to eat up the points that were left over from my initial buying.
You can also find the (experimental) rules for the Contemptor dreadnought here:

And no, this is not meant as a competitive army. This is a fluffy/ just-for-gaks-and-giggles army. =)

Ok I would drop the DW missles. You can't fire them when they come in anyways.

I do agree with MrEconomics. Having a LR on the field with minimal help is bad. I would get rid of that and add another marine squad.

Its interesting to see that you can mix and match the Bolters and CC weapons in squads. It does kinda help in drop pod armies as you are probably going to get assaulted more then assualt. I might add a couple more bolters in there so you can hopefully kill more during your shooting phase but still have some extra attacks in CC from your CCW's. I hope you understand.

Your terminators would be so much better DSing anyways. Do you still have the option to put Tport homers on your Drop Pods? If so do that with your first wave of drop pods. Then your DPods and terminators will not scatter.

I Just noticed that you have Meltas in the squads, thats good. I would make the Melta squads all CC weapons and then have 2 squads with flamers/plasma guns and most bolters, with maybe a couple of CCW's like I said before.

I would also try to get in another one of those dreads(Contemptor pattern) I think they are better then the Iron clad anyday.

Well I hope you understand what i am trying to say here and I hope this helps.

You get a free HW in the tactical squads, I believe you should get one of those. Missile launchers and multi-melta would be your best bet.

I agree that the LR will feel quite lonely on the board and you could get more bodies by getting rid of it. I would try to fit some Sternguards in there. Maybe 8, with 4 combi-meltas, 2 heavy flamers, in a pod with LB. That's only 10 points more then the LR and really adds some punch to your army. And since Tyberios makes those Termies troops, you can get the extra elite slot

Drop pods armies are what they are, put I like what you came up with. Hope I could help a little.

Praise the emperor, bless your weapon and pass the ammo!

I love how people are so worried about the Land Raider getting hurt. It's the 'ardest unit in the game, aside from the Monolith or Apoc stuff.

Is Melta spam really that bad?

For me its not the LR getting hurt, its more of why give them one target against there whole army?

I have always had the Philosophy when doing a drop pod army all of the units should be in a drop pod. I just think it is so much better for you if you do.

I don't really think you need Heavy weapons, but some of them are free so thats not that bad of an option. Interested in seeing your new list.

I wouldn't call Melta spam bad, I'd call it common. It's just a no-brainer to take them with units that have the option, even in armies that aren't trying to be ultra-competitive.

Don't forget that Dark Eldar players laugh at Land Raiders too. If you play a Dark Eldar opponent, that Land Raider is as good as dead. They simply don't have any other anti-tank options besides Haywire Grenades, and even the fluffiest lists have to include some anti-vehicle weapons.

Yeah, I meant they don't have any anti-tank except for darklight weapons, so even the fluffiest list will happen to be able to counter your Land Raider. Against other codices, you might conceivably face an opponent who would rather rely on Lascannons and Plasma or something. Whoops.

I would lose the Deathwind launchers. they can't fire the turn they come out. Thats 100 pts you could get back.

Other then that I like it. Its so different for marines. Almost makes me want to do a list like this.

Can your Sgt take Combi weapons? If so I would find points to give them Combi Meltas. Now you have 2 Meltas in each squad the turn they DS to kill Vehicles. Might be worth it. You don't get any xtra CC attacks from having a pistol anyways w a PF.

Also get rid of the melta bombs on the Assault marine Sgt. He allready has a PF.

What is so special about the contemptor Dread? He is 70 points more then the Iron Clad.

Just a few ideas and questions..keep it coming. I love this list.

Why wouldn't deathwinds be able to fire when they come in?
The Assault sgt. has bombs because i had 5 points left over, and vehicles always give me a rough time.
The Contemptor Dread is awesomesauce. Period.

Also, I've never really worked with resin before, is it that different from working with plastic?

Drop pods count as having moved flat out when they get into play - so no firing weapons! But, I think DW are cool, and should be kept for that reason
BUT - you could get rid of one and buy 3 combi-meltas on your tactical sergeants like balsak suggests.

I like the Assault squad, though I believe they should get a drop pod - not beign able to assault when they deep strike sucks and will get them killed quite fast! And switching jump packs for Drop pod is free.

I think Brother Tashariel should keep his CC weapons and switch his hammer for a chainfist - byebye Land Raiders! That's pretty much how I equiped him in the Carcharodon list I built using your list as a template. What can I say, I love drop pod and your ideas have inspired me.

Again, great job on the fluffy yet dangerous list!

Edit: Resin is toxic - don't file and breathe! (meaning wear a mask) Otherwise, you will NEED to clean Resin before you glue/paint it because of the oil they use in the moulds. Aside from that, it's pretty similar.

But you allready have a power fist, you are going to be attacking with that more then you would with the melta that is the only reason I said to get rid of the bomb. can't use both in assault. PF is better more attacks....

The Assault squad still won't be able to attack. You can't assault after a deep strike (a.k.a. drop pod)

..............Even as I typed that I realized it was wrong. =P Sorry, haven't been able to find my BRB

You're right, they won't be able to attack since they used the Deep Strike rule but you'll add another Drop pod to your list and be able to play with the units you bring in first turn, what you leave in reserve and what you deploy out of the pods. Drop pods armies are a big challenge to master but IMHO are one of the most representative of SM going into battle.

As a side note, maybe you could try to fit some Vanguard instead and see if you can pull Heroic Intervention with them. Just a thought...

That list would be quite mean. You should take advantage of being able to have BP / CCW Tactical squads with Tyberos.Giving army wide FC,then Rage once they have killed something, taking a unit of Termies as Troops is good. The Contemptors have an invun from shooting and CC,plus taking 2 DCCW on a non BA chapter dread is great.

Drop pods count as moving at cruising speed not flat out. Still can't fire weapons as it is not a fast vehicle.

As for the list. I would try to get a couple TH/SS termies in the list for some AP1/2 saturation. That squad is going to eat a lot of shots.

Ooops! My bad, you're right.

The Termies can't include TH/SS if the OP wants them to be a Troop choice (Tyberios special rule). In a list without him, I agree that several SS would add some much needed survivability.

Hey guys. I'm loving all this feedback! Keep it coming!
Made a small change to the list: I dropped the combat shield off my assault sergeant (because I never ever make that 6+ save) and his melta bombs (as many of you have stated, the fist is just so much more versitile). I used the points to drop the ironclad dread's hurricane bolters and give him a dread cc weapon with a heavy flamer. I want him to eat vehicles even more than he normally would .
