Rifle Platoon-140
Rifle Platoon-140
Rifle Platoon-140
3 Mortar Sections-145
2 Heavy Mortar Sections-125
2 Carrier Platoons-190pts
Armored Platoon-295
4 6 Pdr Guns-105
Auster AOP-25
4 25 pdr guns-150
Overall 1490pts
I was meant to have a list worked out last month. But was cought up doing some 40k and some terrain modeling. So I've done a bit of studying and cam up with this
How is that? Good arty support with Some good anti-tank and anti-infantry with smoke coverage. And Maybe later when I want to up the list to 1750 I can just add another Armored platoon with 3 Sherman's and a Firefly
Any tips would be awesome
cheers

It has been awhile since I looked at the 51st list, but my only suggestion would be to drop one of your mortars and pick up typhoons if possible. I think your anti-armor is a hair light, not that arty cant do it, but with only one firefly and the possibility of panthers/tigers you might find yourself needing a bit more punch.
Or maybe 17lbs guns if they are a possibility.

Well those were just idea's and "experiments". I never really made them. I just liked the look of fielding only 9 panthers in a 1500 point list...and as I said before...those lists were just for wees and giggles.
But anyways, Shogun, your totally right about this list being a hair off of some good anti-tank. I tired putting in some 17 pdrs but they put me over points even when i tried dropping some of the other sections.
I've looked over the list and I rather like it. But there is always tweeks to be made!

Do you need so many mortars when they're mostly just used for smoke?

Well as I can see Mortars are more useful then just for smoke

Not according to tournament winners they aren't. They tend to kill less than they should as they aren't very accurate and have low fire power ratings. But hey, if you want to skip antitank for maybe killing a few extra infantry bases over the course of a game...

I won't be playing in any FoW tournaments any time soon (So competitive thoughts are sorta irrelevant to me). And the 3" Mortars are the ones only there for the smoke and the odd kill, But I feel that the heavy 6" Mortars can bring some punch to the table (Infantry Killing wise)

Your points costs are wrong for the scout carriers, they should be 140 points; unless you failed to list upgrades.
Anyway, I think a list like this might work better:
HQ - 35
Rifle 1 - 140
Rifle 2 - 140
Rifle 3 - 140
Scout Carriers [Piat x9] - 185
6lb. Anti-Tank - 105
17lb. Anti-Tank - 180
Churchill Crocodiles - 400
QF 25lb. - 150
AOP - 25
You have a goodly amount of teams so you can always start with a nice number on the table. You can fire as many as 21 AT10 FP5+/4+ and 8 AT13 FP3+ shots ensuring you crush tanks. You have every bodies least favorite thing to face in the Crocs which will melt face against tank and infantry alike. The only thing you lack is more than one option for smoke, but with this much firepower who needs it?
