Had this come up yesterday: A Necron Lord with a Res Orb was Tank Shocked by my Vindicator. He chose Death or Glory and fluffed up his penetration roll, resulting in him being removed from play. However my opponent claimed he should be placed on his side, awaiting WBB rolls, as he has a Res Orb, which he claims can allow you to survive failed Death or Glory. We checked through the Codex and the FAQ, but neither makes any mention to DoG.

In the end, we just removed it, but I just want to clear this up: Would the Res Orb have saved him from the DoG attack? I was under the impression that nothing can save you from a failed DoG attack, but I could be mistaken.

Thanks,

No. It's removed from play and you aren't allowed saves of any kind. WBB is a save.

WBB is not a save, per se.

However DoG Removes the model, it does not Remove as a Casualty. WBB cannot trigger as it only triggers when you are Removed as a Casualty

Even more important than that (as I think that argument won't win over anyone who actually reads the description of why the model is removed) the actual DoG rules say that no rules of any kind can save this models from death, so this would most certainly include anything, not the least of which being WBB.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

Exactly, the last line of the third paragraph reinforces that there not even "...any other clever way of staying alive..."
The Lord, like any other model, is removed.
