So I heard way back that the white scars aren't allowed to have dreads or predators or really any heavy support, is this true?

If so is there a way to by pass these rules without having to switch the army at all or is it all docturne like no options what's so ever?

And also for the salamanders, can they ONLY use melta and flamer weapons is that also a restriction?

Are they all restricted to something or are they just space marine "skins"

Thanks i have always been curious about these things thanks

These restrictions may have existed in previous codexes (before I started 40k), but they certainly don't exist now. The only reason not to take them now would be for fluff purposes, but you are definitely allowed to take them. They are pretty much just space marine skins now, with a few funky rules based on the character leading the army.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

In my cave, lying down and waiting for you...

If you are meaning the tabletop game then no. White scars use the codex:spacemarines and can use any options there is. The idea that they wont use predators is purely fluff. If you want to use predators in a white scars army then go ahead. That just not very fluffik for them. The same also goes for the salamanders, who specialise in melta and flame weapons because one of their special characters grant them an special rule that gives them the ability to use them for greater effect. Hope this helps

A tracked dreadnought would look so awesome! And, yes, you can indeed take White Scars with dreads and tanks and everything else you could think of. (So long as it comes from the Codex.) Have fun!

All those restrictions are from the 4th edition codex, where chapters could take certain traits with advantages and drawbacks. They were horribly unbalanced (Oh no! I can't use bikers in my army where all my Marine squads carry 2 meltas and have apothecaries!) but a good concept. If you want to keep things fluffy you won't use much in the way of dreads or predators, but build your army to your heart's content.

A whole company of White Scars on bikes? - a nice idea! Salamanders - I've just finished reading Firedrake and they make liberal use of bolters - but a whole company armed with flamers and meltas? Now that idea I REALLY like
