I'm looking to base my Space Orks, after many a year ignoring even the concept. I think I want to put mushrooms, squigs and snotlings are the bases. Where would I find those sorts of models cheap? Non-GW models would be a-okay, so long if they looked the part, even with some work.

Don't know about finding squigs and snots outside of the GW range. Squigs are pretty unique. Goblins are common fantasy critters, but styles range pretty widely, let alone finding one in snotling scale.

As for the mushrooms, you're in luck. They're pretty easy to crank out in either sculpting putty or polymer clay. Just roll a sausage for the stem and plug it into a blob for the cap. For variety, roll some conic, some spherical, some flatter. If you want to get fancy, flip them over and touch your knife to the underside, radiating around the stem to form the gills. Pop polymer clay shrooms in the oven to harden/leave putty shrooms out to cure and you're ready to paint and glue or glue and paint, depending on your preference.

You can also make small mushrooms from flat-headed pins, keeping just a few mm of the shafts.

Squigs wouldn't be too difficult to greenstuff, possibly onto an existing mouth from your bits box - they're pretty much just eyes and sharp teeth and some sort of claws, body shape can be anything.

I'm not clear how you'll be using these items for the bases - some sort of swamp/forest look?
