Where is 40k at on points? Last I heard was 1850. Wanting to build a list before deciding to take the plunge into another game system.

It depends mostly on your area. Most tournys I've seen are 1750 1850 2000 or 2500 the first 3 being most commen. At my lgs the commen point lvl is 1500 unless a big tournament is coming up in the area then it changes to the the tournys point lvl so my lgs is at 2k or 2.5k at the moment for nova or hard boys.

1850 is a good standard. A lot of games tend to be 1500 as well, so this gives you a little wiggle room with extra stuff. 'Ardboyz is 2500, which is frankly a joke.
