So, Bjorn, being the oldest marine technically "alive", I was wondering why he wasn't entombed in a Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought. Was he in one originally, and then transferred to the modern day version?

Could be, also he was Wolf Lord (and then Great Wolf) for quite a long while, so he most likely survived past the Contemptor model (note that he is actually better than the Contemptors in all area except speed, which is no doubt due to his age).

Just as Lobukia said, he didn't live all his life as a dread. It could be that he didn't need one until the new models were out.

I feel like I read that Contemptor Dreadnoughts aren't for mortally wounded Marines, and are more like mechsuits/large suits of armor. Not 100% sure on that. Fluffwise, he could have been in one (if I'm mistaken on them being crewed by intact Marines) and it got wrecked, leading to him being placed in another, more recent dreadnought. In the real world, it's simply because the model wasn't out yet.

Because there was no model for one yet, obviously.

As far as fluff is concerned, I guess you could say that maybe his old chassis was destroyed and he had to be entombed in a new one since they had no older models left.

Because they didn't exist in the setting until a couple weeks ago.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.

Actually they've been around since Epic, they've just never had a model for the normal sized game.

Contemptor Dreadnoughts are pre-heresy, while Bjorn was not entombed into a dreadnought until long after the Heresy, so it stands to reason that the Contemptor was no longer available by the time Bjorn got wired into his.

Also, as to the Contemptor not being intended for wounded Marines, you are correct. The Contemptor Dreadnought is an RT era design, and RT era Imperial (and Eldar) Dreadnoughts were piloted by normal people with no injuries, and they were able to leave the chasis outside of combat. Only Orks were hardwired in. However, humans would become addicted to the neural interface, and found it difficult to re-adjust to normal senses after prolonged use.

Note how I state Humans, and not Marines? Back in the day, Dreadnoughts were fielded in both the Imperial Guard and Space Marine armies. Over the years, background fluff shifted away from the original RT units until we have the Dreadnoughts that we have today.

Orks weren't always hardwired in either, IIRC

I remember having an ejector seat option (a big spring) i think?

Some strong hardwire set-up and some (hopefully) even stronger ejection system need not be mutually exclusive in the construction of an Orc Dread.

I am sure the ejector seat is purely for the amusment of the Mek and other orks and not for any safety concern on the part of the pilot.
