Ok so for the first few games i have been running madusas hydras and manticores. first off manticores are overall amazing so i want to keep them. the hydras are ok but them seem like a big target with small guns and is only effective agaist certain enemies. the madusas can be effecive but the range of motion on the cannon and the short range is hard to work around. the worst of all three is of coarse there armor. with the strength of only two ply toilet paper the come in at 12 10 10 which is very easily ripped to pieces and is not so effective in a mech list. I need some ideas for all my heavy support slots or just ig armor in general.

Leman Russ.
My personal favorite is the Punisher but some fiend has been spreading the scurrilous rumour that they are not efficient. Who needs efficiency when you have firepower!

A standard Leman Russ Battle Tank is awesome, and a Demolisher is even better, albeit at shorter range.

When you say manticores do you mean more than one? They take up a slot each so that doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I like manticore, demolisher and russ. They support each other nicely and can do most things that you need.

Depends what you need. Leman Russ is good all around. I like the vanquisher, but you pick what flavor you need.

The best all around choice would be the Leman Russ, but the basilisk is my personal favorite heavy support option for the IG.

Leman Russ Executioners are my favorite. They turn marines to slag in seconds. If you want more accuracy, give them lascannons.

I love the Executioner with Plasmacannon sponsons on the side... so much marine killing power... of course, anything "less" than marines it kills even better.

Standard Leman Russ Battle Tank would be the first choice, after that you can spring for the bells and whistles of the others. But in my opinion, nothing beats the good old Pie Plate of the battle cannon.

Leman Russ's i recommend the classics so normal battle tanks and demolishers are very effective but you may want to choose the varients depending on which armys you are likely to play such as i like the punisher for infantry and vanquisher for tanks but it is only good against tanks and worthless against other things.

Leman Russ with no extra goodies, same with the demolisher. I would stay away from the basilisk, a 36" minimum range is rough, especially against mobile armies or small tables

The Leman Russ is the best, hands down. It comes in many variants for all situations (my favorites are standard and executioner with plasma sponsons), and it's high armor helps it last a lot longer than the artillery in direct shooting.

It can still fire direct fire within 36" but overall a Leman Russ Battle Tank is more versatile and durable.

Nope, it can't.

Join the Imperial Guard. The pay's lousy, the battles fierce and you probably won't ever come back again. BUT you get a lasgun.

Yep, they can. Directly in the rule book under "Ordnance Barrage Weapons" heading, it says that they have the option of firing direct, or barrage. If they fire direct, they ignore the minimum range, and fire as a normal ordnance weapon does (so the same with blast templates, but no minimum range, and must have LOS)

I've lost at least a company's worth of terminators to my buddy's LR Executioner. I want to model a destroyed one for terrain with a terminator planting a flag with an obscene quote on it.
