This weekend I took part in a local tournament and saw an interesting Coteaz list. I don't know exactly what the list was but it was similar to the following:

H.Q.

Coteaz -100

Librarian
Might of titan, Quickening -160

Elites

Venerable Psyfleman -195

Venerable Psyflemam -195

Venerable Psyfleman -195

Troops

Deathcults 6x
Dedicated Chimera -145

4x Henchman
3x Melta, Psyback -96

4x Henchman
3x Melta, Psyback -96

4x Henchman
3x Melta, Psyback -96

4x Henchman
3x Melta, Psyback -96

4x Henchman
3x Melta, Psyback -96

Fast Attack

Interceptors 5x
-130

Heavy Support

Psyfleman Dreadnought -135

Psyfleman Dreadnought -135

Psyfleman Dreadnought -135

Total: 2005

Now I know its 5 points over 2000 but remember this is just basing off of what I saw. It was a pretty interesting list and I'm curious what others think of the list.

It's a good list, except for the Librarian which is completely unnecessary, and the Interceptors which need a Psycannon.

How about telling us how he played the list? What sort of opponents did he run into? How did they handle the mass s8 firepower and unshakable vehicles? Did he suffer in Objective/KP games due to the low number of acolytes on each squad? How did he use the Deathcult squad? What did his deployment look like?

If you're not going to describe the above then I'm not sure what the purpose of this thread actually is.

His opponents were the following: Mechanized Imperial Guard, Thunderwolf Space Wolves with Long Fang and razorspam, and dual lash Chaos Space Marines. I believe he ended up taking 2nd place after losing in the final round to the Dual Lash Chaos player.

His deployment varied but for the most part had the heavy dreads in the back with the Razorbacks spaced Out Between the Venerable dreads. The Interceptors stayed in the middle to provide Warp Quake and the Death Cults did about the same.

Many opponents just couldn't handle all of the massed S8 shooting and the vehicles weren't all that unshakable.

I think the point of the thread is just the same as any other army list thread: to incite discussion and see peoples thoughts on an army list.

Wrong

...but the Libby needs shrouding...Riflemen can fire over Razorbacks and get cover from them.

Find 5 points for that. Servo skulls are also REALLY useful in this list as scout blockers.

My list has no interceptors, but has two units of Strike Squads to Warpquake the flanks as well to prevent deepstriking melta. combo that with the "no scouting" and armies are wading thru 20-22 Str 8 hits a turn to get to you.

Don't listen to the nonbeleivers....this sort of list hammers thru powerarmour alike...and terminators....just thru weight of dice.

My list for the record

Coteaz
Libby w/shroud, MoT, Vortex of doom, 3xServo Skull

Strike Squad w/Psycannon in Razorback with Psybolts

I don't have the models yet, but I've been toying around with a six psydread list.

Brotherhood Champion
3x Ven Psydread
6x5 GK strike squad in razorbacks w/psybolt ammo
3x psydread

Comes in at 1990 points. Strike squads are bare, but their main job is to sit in the razorbacks unless the enemy has closed the distance, at which point they disembark, shoot and assault. The dreads should be able to handle everything up to AV14 and even that, they can keep shaken/stunned. The razorbacks can engage light armor with their S6 TLHBs. Brotherhood Champion is just in there for a cheap PA HQ. He'll join one of the strike squads.

Riflemen can fire over Razorbacks and get cover from them

So you're TFG...

Techinically they can if you angle the guns up/model for advantage, but is it really worth it at that point?

So now you're TFG for trying to find cover for your walkers? Lol! What would you have him do otherwise? Just lay everything out in a straight line and take turns shooting at each other? Part of being a creative player is figuring out how to use cover and terrain to your advantage. If not we are just taking turns in a shooting gallery.

Well if you look at the guns on a dreadnought behind a rhinio they don't look over it, even on a thick dreadnought base. If you angle the guns up then you can indeed shoot over them, but the guns are pointing at the air and it's not even remotely close to a line of fire. technically you are able to shoot them, but that's pushing it. Try it sometime and see what I mean-if you point guns at a target on the table while standing behind a rhino chassis, the chassis will block the barrel. the only way is to angle the guns at the sky yet somehow shoot at them, or get a higher base.

There are other ways to get cover such as putting them in difficult terrain, or halfway behind a building, or staggering your dreadnoughts so one's giving cover to others, etc.

I don't see why labelling or insults are necessary. I'd appreciate it if you refrain from doing that.

Rifleman AC arms easily clear the top hulls of razorbacks and chimera's at least mine do, and they're simply converted. Not modeled for advantage....and they do so WITHOUT angling the guns up.

I remember playing against something similar on Vassal. The Dreadnoughts were a PITA to take down, even with the somewhat hilarious Psycannon Spam I was trying out at the time, and the list packed some real punch. Not something I would play personally, but it definitely has potential.

Fixed vehicle weapons have 45 degree firing arc. There is no reason why that firing arc shouldn't work vertically as well as horizontally, otherwise no vehicle could ever fire at a flyer.

Thank you for providing the additional insight. Interesting that a lash list would win against an army completely made up of vehicles.

The final game was quite a blast from what I heard. I was about 2 tables down but from what I heard was the momentous event of lashing the interceptors out of cover in the first turn and them getting nuked by obliterator plasma. From there, he had 3 termicide squads arrive to kill dreads and it went from there. The primary for the last mission was kill points and chaos won by one point.

Yeah small henchmen numbers definitely would have made the difference there. I would have reserved the Interceptors rather than let them get lashed, or at the very least hide them behind vehicles so they're out of LOS.
