so i was just wondering what you guys though the best looking army was. Which on when you see them, have the most possibilties, paint scheme, conversions and the lot. Not the most competitive but looked the best. I am looking to start a project army and was just curious.
Thanks

I'm not sure you can ask a more subjective question in this entire hobby. For the most possibilities, that would definitely be Space Marines since there's so many different kits that are interchangeable (Black Templars, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Chaos Marines and standard Marines) but their sculpting quality doesn't match the brutal, beautiful Dark Eldar sculpts. Then there's the Tau who have really cohesive, distinct, and cohesive designs, while the Orks have this cobbled together look that's really appealing.

I could literally write about this for an hour and come up with no cohesive conclusion, but I figured this would be a better post than "X looks best" followed by an emoticon that most of these threads contain. It's all subjective, it's all up to you personally, and you can't have other people make your decision for you.

well, I would suggest narrowing down your search slightly. Best Close-Combat SM? BA.
Best Close-Combat? Nids
Best range? IG (Tau need an update)
Most well rounded? Probably vanilla SM or Eldar
Wanna be a hit and run, glass-cannon kinda guy? Dark Eldar

It really does depend quite a bit. I find painting nids the most enjoyable because it's all so organic and slimy (in my mind anyway). But I personally enjoy the SW playstyle far more than the nids.

IMO: SW. But I'm biased b/c they're my army, and I'll say I can defeat all others even though I know I'm full of crap

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Visual Appeal is more doable:

I love the look of a well painted nids or dark eldar army. A little shading goes a long way, and a lot of shading makes them look excellent

Ive got to say CSM can be some of the most visually stunning models Ive seen.
They take a relatively high skill level to be executed well, but the effort is well worth it.

If ur painting skills arent the greatest, orks have got to be my number one choice. Theyve got the best bang for the buck as far as shading goes.

Space Marines have very heraldic colours so there are a limitless amount of colour schemes especially when creating your own chapters.

Tau tend to have a strictly regimented colour scheme similar to the battlefield (according to fluff).

From my personal experience I'd go with Eldar because of the many craftworlds or Orks because you can basically mash up a colour scheme your self and it will almost indefinably look right or matching.

Having played severall. I don't really like the Tau, but as with any army if it is built and painted well it will look good. Personally I love the DE range but I am biased as they are my first.

Off topic: A year ago a never would have dreamed of saying that

On topic: It really depends on what you like. What fits for you.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

Orks

Nah all the army's look good when modelled and pained well. Especially if they have a theme and run with it. Here are two of my favourite I have seen on Dakka.

I remember that necron ork army, +1 to that one.

Visually I find orks the most stunning with the endless array of colour possibilities and molding freedom. Basically take anything and it can be made for orks.

In my opinion SM are the best looking and pretty easy to start with. I've done little work with conversion see my gallory. You can make them how you like them with whatever colors you want.

If you want options, go orks. You can do absolutely anything with them. And I mean anything.
