I'm new to gaming and wondered if there was anyone around Washington.

Sure are! What area of DC are you in? Also, what games do you play (I'm guessing 40k from your sig )

I live in Lorton, so most of my gaming is done south of the Beltway at Eagle & Empire in Alexandria, the GW store in Springfield, and occasionaly the Game Vault down in Fredricksburg, VA.

There is also another store out by Dulles, called Game Parlor. They have a huge playing area, and are pretty active with 40k from what I've heard. Inside the beltway, the only store I've been to is Victory Comics, in Falls Church off Chain Bridge Road. As the name suggests, that store is very comic book oriented, but they have a playing area and also support table top gaming.

You might also want to look at joining the Iron Fist League, which is a very active DC area 40k club:

I'll check out Iron Fists and look into them more seriously once I've actually got everything together. What games do you play?

There's a 40k apocalypse game (big stuff!) planned for Aug 13 at Eagle and Empire if you want to check out what a huge 40k force looks like.

I'll see if I can check that out. Might be kind of depressing though, seeing how far I have to go. And more to the point, how much money it will take to get there.

Well, I play 40k, Battlefleet Gothic, Firestorm Armada, Axis & Allies War at Sea, and Flames of War. I can supply two forces for BFG, FA, DW, and W@S if you want to try them sometime.
