Subject: Tau Army Background Story Help

Hey Everyone, I am putting together a Tau army or Sept rather but i have decided to run the basic idea past you guys (i hope this is in the right area, If not you will have to forgive me for being very green)
My basic idea was a "planetless sept" rather a small independent mobile sept that specializes in tactical insertions, stealth operations and crisis response duty
while patrolling the second and third phase planet borders.
Being a relatively small sept whose membership is made up of all the different septs in the Tau empire in an attempt to further promote
unity between the different worlds and eliminate the discrimination that some worlds hold towards other worlds.
Example: Tau from the world of Au'taal are considered rather lazy.
(but then again you guys probably knew that )
I thought something like this would definitely be done with the greater good in mind. The sept would be using some sort of special issue transport ship or something of the like with some sort of limited stealth / sensor jamming equipment......Along those lines.
Let it be known my knowledge of fluff is ....shot for the most part. but that's the very very simple version of it
but please let me know if i am deviating away from believable background here....I want to be as close to cannon as possible.
I would like to hear about any suggestions or errors that you find within this idea
Thanks in advance

Well I think the word sept means planet, so you can't have a planetless planet. You can have an Cadre made up of many septs and it dose make a lot of sense for the tau to have many Cadres like that.

A good reason to have lots of crisis! ( lets face it they are one of Taus only good units from tactical perspective) I like the overal idea and cant (no you cant, can you Cant) spot any mistakes exept the sept fing

Aha, well then shall i change the word sept to cadre, Thanks for pointing that out
as for the crisis suits...i only have 6 of them at my disposal...but they serve me well. I was just thinking them being like a fast response "cadre" ( )
to any nearby situations that require a full cadre where there might not one present or perhaps there is but maybe it is not equipped enough to handle the situation...
blah blah blah that old chestnut.

You might want to add more fluff to them. Right now they are quite generic.

I think this concept makes sense. Maybe make it a big spaceship a la Galactica, build to reach further into unexplored space, maybe supported by a Kroot Warsphere (or even being on one).

So would you do the armour in one colour, and then a shoulder pad/helmet in a different colour to show which of the original septs the Tau unit came from? a la deathwatch I know but could work.
Would the Tau waste Kroot/auxillary resources on what essentially amounts to patrol duty/reserve company?

In regards to the Kroot/auzillary, i beleive as the tau are trying to, for lack of a better term atm, force the Greater Good on all of the aux races within the empire, So I believe they would have them as part of this, also being that they are essentially a Rapid Response Team, I would think they would have the entire variety of their army so that they are prepared for any situation. However maybe limit the number of Kroot squads availble to 1, and the same for the Vespid (as if anyone actually uses them)
In Regards to Colour, to seperate the septs that they came from. I disagree with this. I think they should look uniform colour wise, however (granted I also seperate squads by color of helmet/Tau Symbol) However maybe having the different symbols from the septs on the vehicles, or even having a different symbol on each hatch on the hull to show the unity of the septs....
But overall i think this is a great concept for a Cadre..... I wish I would have thought of this myself as my army (currently being painted) I couldnt decide what I wanted to do with them.
Also I think you should develop some kind of bonus for them when Deep Striking....or perhaps force a percentage of the units to be deepstriked.... to follow the lore you have created. Have you thought of any Names for the Cadre yet?

Actually the Kroot would LOVE to join such a cadre! No better way within the Tau Empire to aquire new genetic ressources! And Tau joining Kroot on a Kroot Warsphere (which is capable of real warp-travel) would be a good start for this project.

Sounds like 'Deathwatch: Tau Edition'
Not saying its not a cool idea. I think it does make some sense and would fit nicely in the Greater Good. I also think a dark paint scheme would fit best. Base color being black or a dark grey. Similar to a SWAT teams uniform, or the ship to ship camp scheme featured in the Codex. And yes, I think the Kroot would practically beg to be attached to this unit.

I would like to see a literal 'Deathwatch: Tau Edition'. That would be rather neat I think

If you do with SickSix's idea for a dark paint scheme, i'd avoid the sadly overdone red and black mix.
Maybe a strong ice blue for all the lens' on the helmets. Kinda giving off a glow. I think it would look very striking all assembled and the mental images of a team of fire warrior commando-esque troops moving through a deserted town at night with glowing vibrant blue lens' is quite badass.

Sounds like you should go with the Damocles Contingent.
More elite Tau force that operates on the move with its force about the size of a minor sept.

"AM are bunch of half human-half robot monkeys who keep tech working by punching it with a wrench And their tech is so sophisticated that you could never get it wrapped it out" thing a LITTLE to seriously. It also goes "Tau tech is so awesome I wish I was Tau and not some stupid Human" thing.

Thank you for the feedback everyone.
I really appreciate all the cool ideas and recommendations your throwing my way .
Nomotog : I am currently looking in to doing so...my knowlege of the 40k fluff is still quite limited but i promise you i will put a lot of detail in to this one
KoganStyle: I thought of that but it seemed like it would be confusing on the battlefield to distinguish rank and what not with different sept colours. I decided on a uniform sept (or in this case cadre) colour (regal blue). The idea here wasn't to label them as separate units but to fuse them all together in to one solid cadre where they could all push together for the greater good.
As for the kroot, I think excluding them from such a project would be a slap in the face to the Kroot citizens of the Tau Empire, there is one unit of Kroot representing in the Cadre.
Same goes with the human aux force (which after undergoing a nice little conversion using tau bits and IG bits mixed with a bit of expoy / green stuff they have become part of the pathfinder teams effort).
Vladamyr : That deep strike idea sounds capital...could I ask you to go in to a bit more depth on that? im not sure if rules would accept too much...if any deviation .
Still no decision on the name yet ( I suck at creativity especially in another language im not familiar with).
kroothawk : Loving that idea....war sphere sounds like a killer Kroot contribution to the project or perhaps some sort of hybrid tau - kroot ship design project?
Sicksix : I did like that idea, unfortunately my tau are already 90% ish painted...The basic scheme is in my gallery, its camo green over a black base coat which left the green a bit dulled sort of to an olive drab colour.....not vibrant, and still dark enough for my liking.
sc0ttfree: Oh...yeah...I got the feeling after painting all the windows on my tanks and lenses on my fire warriors red....a light blue would have been a nice alternative...or even a light shade of purple.....I wonder if i can go back and redo it :S I would be too scared to do that heh.
BeefCakeSoup : i have not heard of this....more research for me i suppose .
