This is one of the best events around, run by an incredibly solid group of people.

It is also one of the first events to qualify for the 2012 NOVA Invitational.

By the way, for those who may have attended last year, we've changed the venue of the event. This year the BFS GT will be at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack, NY (just over the Tappan Zee bridge if you're coming from Westchester, CT, MA, etc.). It's the same place where the Conflict GT is held and is a huge upgrade from our digs last year.

New updated Hotel info up top.

We are half full as of now. Spots are starting to fill up fast. Reserve a room asap. Once we get to 64 registrants we will see about opening up to more players.

just a reminder to anyone even considering they might attend and will need a hotel to make a reservation at the hilton garden inn. Columbus day is popular in this area with weddings and fall foliage watchers so rooms wont last long. The block of rooms is limited due to this.

hotels have 24-48 hr cancellations so if you choose not to attend there is little chance of getting stuck with a room you wont be using.

on the Topic of terrain.

I want to let anyone who is attending the BFS GT know what type of terrain we will have and how the layouts will look. I think letting attendees to know what terrain will be like allows the players to prepare for the Tournament better by knowing the field of battle.

The BFS GT Terrain deployment will reflect the setups at the NOVA Open. Mike has a great article up on his blog descibing the setup and reasoning behind it.

http://whiskey40k.blogspot.com/2011/06/terrain-to-expect-at-nova-open-40k.html

All of our boards will consist of 7-9 pieces of terrain. Middle LOS blocking, Each side will have a ruin, Area terrain and a LOS blocking piece.
A number of our boards can be seen here in our most recent 30 player rtt here:

http://s1104.photobucket.com/albums/h338/zedsdead69/bfs%20rtt%202011/

Mike will be helping us out by bringing some terrain with him to assist in providing enough terrain for all of our tables. So everyone should expect to see many of the hill pieces featured in NOVA. The centers will mostly consist of Hills of a sort or Bastions on Hills.

The BFS club brought down 20 tables to the NOVA OPEN 2012. While our terrain is more of the traditional sort it did follow the Theory and layout drawn up in Mikes Blog post. . To keep things interesting we hope to keep a majority of our boards theamed as they are now.
Here is a discussion on the back 40k blog describing the terrain along with pictures. the last 13-18 pics are BFS terrain. Please keep in mind that some terrain was moved around by players and there display boards so the pictures dont all reflect proper placing.

Doubles Tournament packet has been posted. Here are the rules:

http://www.baldandscreaming.com/Battle%20for%20Salvation%20GT%20Doubles%20Packet%202011.pdf

DOUBLES RULES
 There is a 2,000 point limit per two-player team. Each player has an individual limit of 1,000 points.
 The teams can combine any legal codex with another even if it wouldn't make sense in the 40K universe. For example one player can play Grey Knights, and his/her partner can play Daemons.
 Both players are limited to one Force Organization Chart between each other. Therefore, one player can take 3 Heavy Support choices from their codex, but then their partner would be unable to take any.
 Each player must take 1 HQ choice.
 Each player must take at least 1 Troops choice.
 For all purposes of standard game play, the partners in a team are considered allies, or Friendly Models, and a part of the same army.
 Both players conduct movement, shooting, and assault phases at the same time.
 Independent Characters may not join units from their partners specific army.
 In regards to Codex specific rules, they only apply to each players specific army. Necron Phase out for example.
 Certain special rules may apply to both players in a team. The special rule must clearly state it affects Friendly models, or something to that extent. If it says all Space Marines for example, and your partner is playing Eldar, then it will not work.
If you are playing the same army, see below.
 ***If the army wide special rules conflict, you may only choose one for both armies that share the same codex. You may decide which at the beginning of each game before rolling to decide first turn. An example would be Space Marine Combat Tactics. If each player had a character that changed combat tactics (Lysander and Shrike) then only one rule may apply for both armies.

Schedule Discussion:

Just an fyi the GT schedule has been adjusted to reflect additional time for game play on day 2. Day 1 will be 2:15 per round, however day 2 will add an extra 15 min. Hopefully this will ensure games finishing more rounds and taking into account fatigue.

As part of the NOVA Invitational qualifier circuit the BFS GT will be giving 4 of its top players spots in next years 2012 NOVA Invite. Best General and Renman as well as 2 other players will be provided these invites.

I want to thank Mike from NOVA for giving the BFS the opportunity to offer these spots to one of 40k's premier events.

I was fortunate enough to play with these guys the past 2 years, last years GT and the year before when it was at a salvation army.

It's ran by a solid group of guys, and I'm pretty upset I can't make it this year going to be in Florida.

Ed I think I have a couple of DaBoyz ready to go and they are getting "permission" heh.

As for tables I can say that I have personally seen several of their tables and they are top notch. Also the group is a solid group that like the game and hobby so make this event if you can!

Awesome to see so many people coming from all over the the country, and an especially big thanks to the guys coming from many hours away to attend. Looks like we have about 10 different states representing so far! Also, it's looking good that we might hit the 64 player mark, making this event one of the bigger GTs around.

Many thanks and congratulations to Bob, Ed, John and everyone else from the BFS club for all the hard work putting on this fun event. This was my first time at one of their events and at a NOVA-style formatted event, and it was still as relaxed and enjoyable a play experience as I would hope from a 40k event.

Congrats to Neil Gilstrap for Best General, Chris DeBuque for Best Appearance and Mike Brandt for Best Overall, and to the other winners. Congrats to Nick for kicking ass with Tau. Congrats to my Cold Steel Mercs teammates and driving buddies Keith and Alex for winning their brackets on day 2. A shout out to Danny for being friendly and welcoming despite the multiple times we've "firmly shared contrasting opinions" on tournaments. Another to Bob Evers, Dan O, Chris D, and everyone else who brought a really nicely-painted army despire it not being a major focus of the event. One more to all the Chaos players or former Chaos players at the event who I got to chat with and who were pulling for me. You guys can do better than you think; you don't need the SW or GK crutches.

Thanks for the kind words, Ragnar. I'm really glad you enjoyed the event. I think a special congratulations is in order for you for being the only person to be 5-0 going into Game 6.

For those not at the event, we had 56 participants who were divided into 7 single elimination brackets of 8 players on the second day. We had a few drops and didn't hit our 64 target, which resulted in the top bracket consisting of four 4-0 players and four 3-1 players. Both of our finalists, Mike Brandt and Neil Gilstrap, were of the latter. Ragnar was the only 4-0 player not to be eliminated in the first bracket game.
