Do I glue them closed permanently or keep them off the model altogether? What do you think, aesthetically and rules-wise? (I realize there is always LOS through one no matter what).

There is no way I am going to put them on normally, where they open up onto the gaming table. Mostly because I don't like them, but also because they make no sense anyway (don't count as part of the hull, are part of the vehicle so should be impassible, yet you can walk on them etc; )

IMHO I would glue them on if you don't plan on opening them on the table. Leaving them off doesn't make sense seeing as how you were just shot from orbit. Some people my argue an LOS issue with the storm bolter but please it is a freaking storm bolter. I would still let you treat them as though they were open.

Meh, change armies and go with Eldar. They don't bother with nonsense like that.

But seriously, I hate them too. I would probably glue them on.

ROFLOL. Hah. I guess I should have said "rules-wise" instead of games-wise up there. Most of the stuff in this game makes no sense from your perspective: "Why is that marine frozen in place, he is supposed to move, that's why all of my models are animatronic robots."

To clarify I am looking for what people like aesthetically and what they find agreeable rules-wise. If the doors get glued on, what percentage of people / TOs would have a problem with that? Same question if doors are left off.

I wouldn't have a probelm, and I don't think most people will have an issue either way it just looks more complete if you glue them on...wait you have animatronic robots! Must make robot army to fight against robot army...

They actually would make nice planks wouldn't they? I think he cares about would a TO not let him use it or people get upset because of LOS issues and I still think not.

Magets I nice for this, get some small ones on the top of all the doors, then clue a widdle bit of metal sheet to the bit where the top of the door connects with the pod. There are some tutorials on it believe, but sadly can't seem to find them.

Heh. Got a buddy who runs ORKS! who I owe big, so he's getting them if that's the way I go....

Anywhoo, thanks for the comments guys. What are your thoughts on this sort of compromise? I need to make two drop pods, so why don't I make one with the doors glued shut, and the other with the doors completely off? That way LOS / cover issues can always be resolved by swapping one with the other. Eh? And if I make more drop pods, I can glue them all shut, since I have one which is see-through.

Magnets are the tidy solution, worth the effort. I have yet to experiment with magnets in a big way but the payoff for using those skills with vehical weapons etc is huge cost/time saving and the ability to run a variety of army lists. Try them on the doors it would be an excellent test project.

Great idea re using a drop pod door as a orky boarding plank!

Back on topic, I'd just glue the doors closed, and point out to opponents that ruleswise it can still shoot the stormbolter, I think only a few sad rules lawyers will have a problem. Hmm, to keep even the pedants happy, you could perhaps glue just the end of a stormbolter barrel (made from 2 spare bolters) on the top of _each_ pod door, representing a pod variant which ruleswise still counts-as a normal pod?

I only have one of the plastic GW model pods and I got it second hand (and it had no interior pillar or harnesses modelled) so I left it with the doors glued closed.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Could have been used as a dreadnought drop pod?

Totally agree that they're impractical/annoying on the board.

I'm planning on magnetizing mine and just removing them from the table, or laying them haphazardly out of the way, as if they've exploded outwards on impact (which I think is what they do acc to the fluff)

That's a good point, you can just build the pod with no doors (i.e. they've been blown off by explosive bolts after landing). Other than a few pedants arguing that the open doors should be there for resolving close combat assaults on the pod, few players would complain - probably fewer than would moan re firing the storm bolter through closed doors.

And then you can use the doors for orky boarding planks

You know the model isnt actually shot fro orbit right?

In fact it doesnt come into play until it is placed on the table at which point the doors open/are blown off so it makes more sense ot not put them on actually.

personally I would magnetize or blue ac them on soyou can take them off as needed.
