If tomorrow 40k the miniature wargame was to disappear from the face of the earth. What other game would take its place (if any)? Warmachines, Warhammer Fantasy, Flames of War, Force on Force, Hordes, etc.

Me, I would dump more money into Flames of War, and maybe start playing Flames of War: Vietnam, Force on Force, or Cold War Commander.

Spend more time with Warhammer Fantasy and other wargaming systems. I'm sure that my Xbox would be played more too.

Start work on my Foundry Darkest Africa figures, or my Urban War figures, or my Grenadier 'Future Wars', or my Lead Adventure figures, Necromunda, AK47 Republic, This Quar's War... there's so much out there besides 40K.

Personally, I'd head in to the following:

Dust tactics
Flames of war
Secrets of the third reich

I might have a peek in to Warmachines too.

It wouldn’t affect me much as I’ve already moved the main focus of my miniatures hobby to Warmachine. If 40k went defunct I’d still keep my existing 40k collection. I’d try to get some use out of the models by either squeezing them into another system or having the odd small scale game every now and again using the third edition rule set.

I've already stopped playing it, so.....

I'm quite sure many people who still have their miniatures would still play it and/or something else would fill the niche 40K used to occupy.

If there was no 40k, I not only would not be wargaming (The others have minis that don't interest me, settings that don't interest me, rules that infuriate me, or a combination) but I would have a -lot- more guns and ammo. If I were to sell back all the marine minis I own at retail, I would have more than enough for a SCAR 17S, a case of ammunition and probably enough left over for an optic.

Either seriously get into Flames of War or grab the rules for Force on Force and either use my current guard miniatures or start building an insurgent force to go with it.

I'd start Warmachine or Malifaux. It's also likely that if 40k disappeared, fantasy would as well. Even though fantasy came first, we have more Star Wars Geeks than Lord of the Rings Nerds. I, happily, fall into both categories. I did start with fantasy though, and jumped to 40k to play a similar system, with slightly different unit setups. Daemons were my crossover army, the bastards...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'd like to say that I'd devote my 40k time to getting another Pathfinder campaign going, GMing a Battletech: A Time of War campaign, or GMing a Dark Heresy campaign.

Realistically, I know that none of those would happen, and I'd probably dedicate the time to more mundane pursuits, like work, videogames, and friends (of the non-inducted variety). In pursuit of education and jobs, I moved to the New York City a few years ago and have never had the opportunity to get into gaming of any kind down here, as none of my friends here have expressed any interest in 'that crap in the back corner of my apartment'. The only time I get games of any kind in is when I head out to the back o' beyond where I grew up, and reconnect with my hometown friends and their network of gamers, which doesn't happen as often as it should due to the pressures of real life.

I would find another set of rules that allowed me to play with my elite power armoured infantry and tanks (there are a LOT of rules sets out there and quite a few are better written).

In the end, the minis are playing pieces for the game.
