I am currently making an excel spreadsheet that allows me to write a complete chaos Space marine army list by selecting units and options from drop down menus....
this is not like writing an army list in excel like you normally would... every unit, upgrade options... everything, is loaded into a database (including points cost and force organisation allowances) and all you need to do is select what you want from drop down menus... it saves time typing up lists and is also organised into a clean, print ready format...

if anyone is interested let me know... i would be more than happy to write up the database for other 40k armies...
i can easily email you the spreadsheet

PM me for enquiries.

It would be cool to use... but isn't it illegal? If you could make it and share it with others they wouldn't have to buy the codex...

If i friend wrote somethings out for me on a pice of paper so i didnt have to look at the codex, i dont think i would be arrested nor him.

Hey, I already bought the Codex. This would just be a time-saver, and better than Army maker or whatever those are.

If he were to sell it then yes it would be illegal. You do have to consider information protection and international laws since dakka has such a diverse group. I would still be hesitant to go forward without more information.
On an up note I do like the idea.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

I like the idea, but legal issues aside, don't most people end up memorizing all the relevant points costs for the armies they play anyway?

Current Record: 5 Wins, 6 Draws, 3 Losses 2000 points

In Progress: 500 points

Sometimes it's a bit tough to remember if Grabbin' Klaws are 5 points or 15, or if the Grot Prod is a 5 or 10 point upgrade.

That was the long answer. This is the short one.

No.

Alice40k has done just this for each codex. they are nice little spreadies. Check them out via google.

I tend not to use them very often, paper is so much quicker if you know your points. Still i see the appeal, you could probably put them on a flash drive as well, that'd be handy.

Have any of you ever heard of Army builder? if you havnt i suggest you find a way to download v2.2c that may or may not contain a crack.. be careful find the real one.. even the real one may trigger your antivirus (because of the crack) but there are fake ones with real viruses.

once cracked you can find online data files, if you pm me ill get you the link to the data files.

I use online codex.
You can write a list in a minute if you know what you want to get.

It's free. But actually I do not know if you can switch the language to english.

i know there are other similar things out there... im just trying to put my own thing on it... how will things ever improve if people dont try to mix it up a little and get their ideas out there
im quite busy with work at the moment... but it will eventually be finished (and to be completely honest... getting everything to run smoothly withy conditional drop down menus is trickier than i thought lol

But this is free, and army builder is not. No need to slag him off.

Yeah... I like that he is doing his thing.
Obviously he knows the alternatives we provided him and still tries to do his own thing. Maybe achieves something useful.

I personally find that writing an army out in pencil and going back and erasing and re-writing everything is the best.

But if I had the chance to do it in excel, it would be very much nicer because then it's easier to store, copy, and generally not lose. Also you can instantly email it to people/buddies.

@Woodbok, relax, not everyone checks their Dak every day!

well champ (and i say that as sarcastically as possible) I dont think you understand what my army builder is all aboot... im trying to provide a service to the hobby community here that is easy to manage and, most importantly, FREE!
it may not be the most polished army building tool, but everyone has their own preferances on how they like to write their army lists... so if you dont like it, no use whinging like a nancy... i dont see you coming up with any ideas mate.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
and to everyone who has requested a copy of the writer... im doing this as kind of a side project... plus im flat out at work at the moment (i have to produce websites for 2 sister companies and im also reworking the entire network infrastructure for my friends bussines) so i dont have a lot of time to work on it
im sorry, i know its a pain in the arse guys :(
