I immediately thought of BBs, as well, if the lightly larger size (6mm) isn't an issue. Steel bearing balls are another option, if you don't mind metal. You'd have to take a bit more care in the attachment, since they're not exactly easy to drill into for pinning to the model, which is one distinct benefit of using plastic BBs.

I think I will just go with BB's. That was a great site for plastic ball joints, but I really don't want to wait for shipping from Japan. Thanks for all the tips everyone...
