I'm not really sure where I could post this without getting bombarded with hate from those well versed in the fluff of 40k, but hopefully the army I'm working on will at least be plausible. Sooo I'm just going to give you guys the ideas I've had brewing for this army and let everyone yell at me and such.

The whole reason I'm wanting to make this custom chapter is to spice things up with my plain half finished SM army. I personally wouldn't have started a SM army, but a very generous friend gave me a bunch of them to start with so I wasn't going to turn that down. And 2 years later being busy with life and having an army I can't seem to really get into, here it sits unfinished. So I've decided to take things in a new direction with this vision of a renegade clan space marines. A barbaric group, founded originally by a group of space wolves that went rogue (After some sort of unforgivable event that took place against them, possibly by the Imperium) and now go crusading through the galaxy like pirates. Almost ork like (but in a more sophisticated manner) in their vehicle modifications and weaponry, salvaging anything they can to aid their cause of wreaking havoc in the name of revenge.

And so of course what better codex to represent a tribe culture and individualism of its members than the space wolves? (Although they won't have much in the ways of wolf attire) I'm thinking about calling them Pain Wolves, and I've already started the overhaul on my old army with some bit bashing and modeling. Going to give them all kinds of various CC weaponry for looks, more like Dark Eldar in that sense. A master Iron Priest and his servs would be responsible for the army's maintenance and mechanical modifications. With what little resources they come across for repairs their vehicles take priority, so the armor of the troops will be very battle hardened/ grimy, and never polished before battle. And yes I do kinda feel like a cheap ass taking standard models and calling them space wolves, but its rather hard to convince your wife that its necessary to buy more plastic models for a game you play . So I'm going to try my hardest to do them justice with some good modeling and uniqueness. But without decent fluff they will be looked down upon I'm sure, and as of now their back story is pretty fail with no backbone. Originally, (before the space pirate idea) I was going off of some of the fluff I had heard from a friend, where some dark eldar homunculi tormented and mutilated the bodies of a group of space wolves into soldiers under their control. The part he forgot to mention was that these soldiers were actually giant mutilated grotesques with patches of wolf fur emerging everywhere.... Not exactly what I had in mind to say the least.

Again, I know this is still far fetched but I do know that there are renegade chapters in existence that haven't completely fallen to chaos.
If anyone has some suggestions on this I would really like to hear them!

-Thanks in advance!

Maybe something like Crimson wolves. All I know, is that I'd love to see the HQ with a pirate hat.

Although borrowed from a White Wolf game, if you're making Renegade Space Wolves, you might want to consider "Get of Fenris", or some similar slap-in-the-face to Loyalist Marines, in much the same manner that the Emperor's Children still use that name.

From that point? Well, they're renegades. Fenris is an aquatic world with all sorts of possibilities for Viking-Pirate storylines and such.

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

I'll second the "Get of Fenris" name. That's +1 right there.

As for everything else, nothing seems too out of line with the fluff to me.

Emperor's Eagles (undergoing Chapter reorganization)
Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

I love the "Get of Fenris" name! Would it be over the top to use the white wolf symbol?
(after all I have GoF ally for my gangrel char in vampire the masquerade)

Here is an idea of the paint scheme:

(going to be adding more rubble at the base, used to have a jump pack)

Well, WW or GW might get pissy if you rolled up to a National Tourney with it, but other than that? I say use the Paw.

Actually, I was thinking of this GoF symbol:

Could work, maybe turn it to the left 45 degrees or so, so it looks more like a pair of X's forming a sort of shadow-effect or something, with the pointy bits up and the squarish-bits as the base.

Would also be easier to paint that way, I think.
