In 2132 Manfred von carstein launched a suprise attack on the empire...

But in the years before this he sought new alliances, with vampires and dark creatures both great and small. Those in whom he saw great potential to lead his forces, in either an act of vampiric political foresight or with military genius. Of all of these one notable appointment was a vampiric lord who's background was unknown to many. Stories about his 'birth' were often whispered with a tone of disgust. The most popular tale is that during the final months of vlad's campaign against the empire he begins to feed during a battle upon various warriors of the empire, and that during the feast he is distracted from killing one of his meals during the fight. Left on one of the many battlefields of the newly dead and dying, the near dead man is forced to drink from the pools of blood or face death from dehydration. By the third day sunless day, when the pools of blood had become pools of decay, the man is discovered by a necromancer.

In an act of fear the necromancer, a magus of little power, but capable of raising the dead to serve his masters needs, sees this man as a threat. He has several of his servents raise the barely living man and pin him into a cross with a broadsword. With that act the warriors life ended, and so rose a new vampire. Viewed by many a cast off, a bastard child born in during an acccident in battle, he has fought many more noble vampires, slaying several in his rise to power. Like most of the kind, his need to prove himself and fulfill his lust for power and control was his main drive in joining manfreds campaign. Nearly a century since his last encounter with a true von carstein, the vampire now know as Elric The Bloody, or Elric The Red, was suprised to find mannfred didn't have the same tone as other vampires he had met. Whether it was an act of disception, or mannfred recognising one of the few von carstein sires with any real potential to be of use in his war, combined with the act of recognising Elric as a member of the Von carstein liniage he gained a new general with a sizable force at his command.

So with the fluff out of the way, lets get to the important bit. this is my second attempt at vampire counts. The major issue i have is that i can't complete the old army because during my last year at university my dad decided to bin the box containing my skeletons and dire wolves... so i now need to replace them. This log has until mid to late september to produce a 750pt force, since thats when i enter a fantasy tournie.

Here's the rough theme for the army using one of the old models with a new basing theme... SNOW!




I know the painting isn't great, but i can't be bothered to salvage it since i'm going to get a new corpse cart in the battalion box set i'll have to buy to replace my missing units. However, any comments?

Update time though for the army, i've salvaged about 20 ghouls from my old rogue IG army as well as found the original 10 from this army. i've also remodelled my vamp lord so he looks alot more casty casty;

So WIP time, since i don't own a vargulf yet, and they cost similar points... here's 5 Black Knights...






The vampire lord is still very WIP. Its why the colour is a bit simplistic atm, but i like the model, even if the photo's are lest 'casty cast' and more 'Ack no sunlight!'

So last night i was playing against tyranids having fun, when one of the members said he was giving away brettonians... and that no one wanted them. i realised that i wanted them ( i didn't realise they were being given away) and after a man-hug (which i iniated... you'll see why) i recieved a box of bretties...

Update; i've remodelled my black knights, though they look a little rough in the photo, but i'm quite happy with them... mostly because i know how they will look later. I'd also like to present the first finished model in this log; a rather cheap necromancer! my favourite feature with this guy is the 'charm' i've given him, using a ghoul hand and a mara horsemens head.
