Hey guys!

I have a question for the legal minds of dakka. I've been considering selling custom bases, however they are hand made and not cast. This might not be a problem, but they are built on top of Games Workshop bases, proudly displaying the copyright on the bottom. I was wondering if I would be able to sell the on eBay/through paypal, even though technically it is copyrighted material.

Advice concerning this situation is much appreciated!

I don't think there should be any issues with purchasing a product from one company, modifying it, and then reselling it as a different product. Bear in mind though, that I have no real legal education.

Well you are legally acquiring the bases to begin with, so modding and reselling isn't illegal.

That being said, IF you wanted to cast them, that would be fine as well. GW doesn't hold copyright over the idea of 20 or 25mm bases, nor do they compete in the custom bases market.

In short, you'll be fine.

Also GW aren't the SOLE makers of slotta bases.

Several lawsuits involved these in the 80s (slottabases).
