Subject: Wrecks Count as?

Been Around the Block

My Question is whether a wreck counts as area terrain or not. The rule came up, when my plasma gunners jumped on top of a downed vendetta to shoot over it. I was two inches back and my opponent declared he gets a cover save from my plasma gunners. It really only mattered because I was shooting 6 plasma shots into his bikers.
the rule book only defines wrecks as difficult and dangerous terrain, and his arguement is that with a clear border around the vendetta, it qualified as what was described as area terrain.
Any help?, and why?

Yes, wrecks are area terrain which are also difficult and dangerous.

The rules do not count Wrecks as Area Terrain. Check page 62 of the rulebook... They are Difficult and Dangerous, but will simply be a big LOS-blocking lump of wreckage.

As Insaniak said. They are specifically defined as Difficult and Dangerous, but nothing says or implies that they're Area Terrain.

Even though the rules never state it, I've never come across anybody who doesn't play wrecks as area terrain. Since terrain is agreed upon between the players before the game, this presents no problems.

I've never played wrecks as area terrain; craters (explodes!) on the other hand is usually played as area, simply because expecting someone to bring lots of actual craters is a little much!

It's all about the meta, I guess.

I suspect that's a result of the common misconception that difficult terrain is area terrain by default.

I agree heartily, as there is a huge preponderance in my meta to play every last piece of terrain on the board as area terrain. I find it more than a little bit annoying but if I want a game that's how it's played or I become TFG simply by pointing out the rules. However with wrecks, I can see it being played either way, without severely impacting the game.
