Title says it all really, does playing against someone's beautifully painted models make you back off a bit or throw you off kilter?

For me, it makes me wary. As the person has obviously put a lot of time into his army and knows its strengths and weaknesses well.

Iranna.

Not necessarily. They may just be more of a painter than a gamer, and the list, and player, may, therefore, be sub-par.

That being said, I certainly would prefer to play well painted armies.

No some people are good painters but rubbish generals. Also being well painted means it must hurt more when things die! But don't be fooled into shooting the sexiest units in the army

At first it did, but now I'm more confident. It helps that all of my stuff has at least three colors.

No, I actually enjoy it more.

I live for that solitary tear that runs down my opponent’s cheek as my unpainted terminators rofl stomp his eldar.

I'm never intimidated, but often impressed. I play this game because I like seeing well painted armies blow the crap out of each other, and the spectacle is a real draw for me.

Thats the best feeling in the world.

I'm not intimidated by a well-painted army, why would I? Idc if your 'Eavy Metal level, Golden Daemon winning model is epic, it'll be dead by the end of the game

This is my Leman Russ. There are many out there like it, but this one is mine. Without it, I am useless. Without me, it is useless.

A new day, a new time zone.

Painting skill has absolutely nothing at all to do with knowing how to play.

I feel nothing except a twinge of jealousy,

far too many points and still painting...

Intimidate, no, but it's a refreshing change. I'd rather lose to a well-painted army than win against a non-painted one.

The Paint on the models do not effect me at all...

But you should take a look on the ruleset of some Tempus Fugitives Tournaments:

Models that are in close combat with enemy models that are not 3-color painted gain "prefered enemy"

No. I'm a painter/hobbiest before a general. in fact, I'm not a good general at all.

But I enjoy playing with my buddies and fielding a well painted army.

personally, I think my army's paint job is OK... but at my first game i saw a guy with an amazingly painted 1500 Eldar force. it looked like it was done by a machine. I backed down from his challenge, and he whooped the next guy's ass. these guys really scare me because you know they have put A LOT of time into there army, and will probably out gun and outsmart you.
