So, I've been enjoying David Weber's Safehold series. A fantastic aspect of the books is the focus on naval combat.

Saying that, I've been looking around for a good set of Naval combat rules. I've looked at a few, and Flying Colors seems to be what I want. It supports larger engagements, and seems to be more 'game' than 'simulation'.

Has anyone played this? Any reviews or advice?

Never heard of this one.

What era are you looking for? Mongoose's Victory at Sea and Age of Dreadnaughts are both fun and focus on the game more than simulation. Task Force Games' Battlewagon is also cool (very Battletech-ish with it's damage system). Trafalgar is also supposed to be good.

A little digging on the net would also turn up a home rules system that uses age of sail ship stats with the Man O' War system - a perfect use for all those old Wizkids Pirates packs that could be laying around the house.

If you feel like punishing yourself and friends you could always snag a copy of Harpoon off Ebay.....

Punishment indeed. It makes Starfleet battles look quick. However, it is actually more simulation than game. Its a civilian-ized version of the naval combat predictor the US Navy used before computers fully took over. If youve ever wondered how a battle between XX and XX ship(s) would come out, its the game for you.

Whats my game?

10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
