The video was fine.

I like a good portion of the Forgefather range as well. I think the larger weapons on the forgeguard look a bit out of place on the forearms. I imagine the gun would mount well on the shoulder though. The Militia-- those are the original Forge Father plastic basic infantry renamed right?

Are the Brokrs PVC? If it says "plastic" but not "hard plastic" is that the stuff Mantic used to call "restic?" I know larger kits in the material like the Iron Ancestor tend to be fine, but I've had bad experiences with Privateers use of the material on smaller infantry.

Update: I found an unboxing video and yep, they're PVC. Oh well.

I really like these guys:

I actually don't mind plastic with metal upgrade parts and the hammers aren't too oversized, so I don't think these will tip that easily.

The tank designs are a bit silly. Sure they can push through dirt, but a high sidewalk edge or a concrete retaining wall and they are stuck. No clearance at all. Easiest tanks ever to build tank trap defenses against.

Tank design is one thing
But the FF is more realistic than a Rhino or Land Raider as they won't be able to drive on something else than a flat street

And I like the FF Design in general, while Squats have this Retro Fantasy Space Dwarf Flair, FF look more like the modern SciFi models I prefer.
Even if GW would came up with a Squat Army in 40k, I would still use the FF range

Regarding PVC, I have the Brokrs here and they are not bad (give me less work/headache in cleaning and assembly than the last GW Resin stuff)

I just don't like metal/plastic hybrids

I like the FF range the best out of the Mantic figs, but I just don’t think the style fits 40k. It’s far too crisp and clean looking in my opinion.

In general the Warpath ranges are much better than the fantasy lines, but even then, the fantasy lines have been improving a lot. The Salamander Kit for example, thats a thing of beauty. And the new heroes.

I think the ForgeFathers line is decent. I really like the Brokkrs, they have normal heads instead of the wide flat heads that the FF and KoW dwarves have. The flat helmets remind me of RamMan from the old He Man cartoon and the distorted head shape is offputting to me. The FF tanks are ok, I understand the aesthetic they went for but to me short aliens should have short vehicles instead of really tall ones. If the Sturnhammer was more like the StuG and the Hultr was more like the BMP I think they would fit in better.

Yeah, the vehicles from Warpath are nice. To be honest, they remind me a bit of the first GW plastic vehicles - and I don't really miss those. It always feels like Mantic is way behind GW in some aspects, sometimes.

Still like the current design of Forgefathers. You can easily build a fan army of Forgefathers with the V8 rules, and all the available units from Mantic can make a fair amount for a "mini codex". Or you can play them with the Warpath rules, I guess, if you find someone kind enough to play with you.

On another matter, I really love the current resin used for KoW big models. I bought the fire elemental, both the regiment and the big one, and it's really sweet to build. Much lighter as well. The resin is just the right middle between softness and hardness to be enjoyable to work, as well as enduring a few bad falls/hits. I'm way more enjoying that than the metal earth and water elementals (I fear the day one of those will slip off the table and break in many pieces...).

Will be good to finally get the Hornet and Mule, they're the last minis I've been waiting for from the Kickstarter, someone on the Warpath KS page also mentioned that they'll have an approximate date after the Chinese New Year.
Been a long wait but hopefully the end result is worth it.

Mantic are slowly piquing my interest again. After the Undead way back in the day I just haven't been impressed. We backed the first Deadzone as a group and it was... alright. And some models were characterful.

The vehicles are starting to look interesting and I'll be interested to see pricing when they hit retail. Right now looking on the Mantic website and depending on which army you can get plenty more than for equivelant cash at GW (Comparing a Start Collecting to Starter Force as a quick and dirty comparison) but the models are definitely behind in quality. And I'm not sure that's still worth the price for me to get on board with them again for subpar sculpts.

In any case more diversity is always good in the hobby. And their Kings of War Historical rules were fun. I just wish they could grip me more in terms of background and models. Hopefully the vehicles are the start of that.

Remaining vehicles will be on their way soon...

Posted by Mantic Games (Creator)

Hi everyone,

Very sorry that it's taken so long to get in touch. We've been waiting for updates from the factory producing the remaining vehicles to get a date for when they'll be delivered. Thankfully we've now got the update and the good news is that they'll be with you shortly.

Firstly, a quick reminder of what's outstanding from the Kickstarter. The following vehicles have yet to be delivered:
•GCPS Mule
•GCPS Hornet
•Asterian Chira/Chroma
•Plague Mule
•Plague Hornet

But we're now pleased to say that we're expecting these to be finished in early April and we'll flying them over to our warehouse from China ready to ship. We're expecting to begin shipping the remaining items in the middle of April.

If you need to update your shipping address for your remaining items, please email our support team with your backer details and new shipping address. The email to use for contacting us is support@manticgames.com

The reason behind the delay for these remaining vehicles was due to some serious problems getting them tooled. The original factory who signed up to produce the vehicles came back to us very late in the process to say they couldn't make all the vehicles to the high quality we required and were only able to make the Forge Father tanks and Enforcer Interceptor.

This meant we had to find a new factory to produce the remaining items. After finding one that fitted the bill, we signed them up to produce the Veer-myn Tunneller. Once we were happy with the work they did on that, we then got them to produce the Hornet, Mule and Chira/Chroma. Of course, this all resulted in an unfortunate but unforeseen delay. We never want to compromise on quality and we're very pleased with the final results (and we hope you will be too).

As part of that effort to ensure we got the quality of finish we wanted, it does mean that a few small parts have changed from hard plastic to PVC. This was to ensure we captured the detail required and they would have been too complex to produce in hard plastic. Although the main parts of the vehicles will be hard plastic, a few elements have been changed to PVC. These include:
•GCPS Mule - tyres and mounted weapon options
•GCPS Hornet - weapon options
•Asterian Chira/Chroma - weapon options, part of the cockpit and interior stabilising fins
•Plague Mule - corpses, weapons and spiky bits
•Plague Hornet - corpses, weapons and spiky bits

The finished articles look amazing (you'll just need some super glue, as well as plastic glue to fit the PVC bits). Once again, we're so sorry about the delay in getting these remaining vehicles to you. However, the good news is they'll be in your hands soon and ready for war! Thanks again for your support.

and note the almost obligatory material shift (not too fussed about they tyres, they're going to be fine the weapons? I'll wait and see I guess it depends where the mould lines end up being)

I’m not happy about the change to PVC for some parts but it’s par for the course with Mantic and unfortunately “Mantic almost” strikes again (someone had to say it ) As you say tyres should be fine but the weapons may suffer as a result. Hopefully it’s the light grey PVC they’ve been using previously for warpath as that’s quite a firm PVC and holds details well, despite what they say about the Star Saga PVC being the same formula it clearly isn’t as it’s softer and doesn’t hold detail as well.

They really need to stop fething up their decision making when it comes to Chinese factories, because this time it basically tanked any chance they had of getting a clean, successful launch of Warpath while people were still interested.

So, all this is basically "too late" for me, as I'm married now and already have too many projects. Keeping my awesome Enforcers (love those models), but I'm letting my Corporation stuff go at Kickstarter prices. Anyone want in on two of the KS bundles, plus I think it's 6 mules and 2 Hornets?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I just looked at update #90 and noticed that the Mule wheels and Asterian Chroma weapons, cockpit and interior stablising fins are in a different material, they put this down to different coloured plastic for test runs but it looks to me like the change was planned awhile ago (hidden in plain sight) and only communicated now near shipping time. You can see PVC type mold lines on some of the parts and the details of the wheels looks a little soft. The Hornet is also missing it's weapons which are now PVC.

Yeah, with what you've noted and an overwhelmingly successful relaunch of 40k with 8th it feels like Mantic really missed the bus here. I hope the Vanguard giants don't get changed to restic or metal at the 11th hour!

Good spots there, DaveC!

The Vanguard giant is/was/always has been PVC. So it'd be interesting for it to be changed into a material it's already in.

Restic is plastic. It's the same material as the TWD stuff etc. It's not Hard Plastic (as in on a sprue stuff like the new MAA), but still...erm...'real' plastic.

Yeah, I know what it is. You also know what I mean. We don't need to have that particular dance here. Resin is also technically a form of plastic, which you also already know.

Usually their larger restic stuff is pretty good though, at least compared to the smaller restic models (human size or less).

I was thinking the same thing, so I went back and looked at the Vanguard KS, and it clearly states "PVC Plastic Giant" in the update where the stretchgoal was unlocked, so I guess my memory is going too

Still, I'm ok with restic for larger stuff, especially the newer restic I got in Deadzone 2 and already received for Warpath, ie the Hultr Halftracks.
