Brilliant response to July's Miniature of the Month which saw a total of 12 entries - the winner of which can be found at
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/386980.page. But alas, July is old news - it's August now, so we need a new competition!
Entries need to be
PM'd to me by August 27th, 11pm (EST) with the prefix “[MotM]”. Example: [MotM] Tyranid Hive Tyrant..
UK users -> 27th by 3am.
PST users -> 26th by 8pm.
German users -> 27th by 4am.
Japanese users -> 27th by 12 noon.
You can use any miniature you want, regardless of its year of production. Providing it fits the theme, and is Codex-legal, go with it!
But finally to the main event: the theme of the August 2011 MotM competition is....
Dear Leader
Roll out your army's leader! For
40K, anything from the
HQ section of your Codex may be entered, and Fantasy players may enter anything from Lords and Heroes.
LOTR players may enter anything from the Heroes and Command section. For other systems, any miniature that functions in the senior command echelon role, such as those listed, may be entered. Only
one image per entry is allowed, although you may make this single image a composite of many angles.
Single miniatures only, no squad entries. Models such as the crew of Fantasy/
LOTR war machines count together as a single entry, likewise a 2-man
IG Heavy Weapon crew still only count as the one model.
Best of luck to all of you, and I await the models.
Here's the quick "How To" on mini photography:
Miniatures should be placed against a pale/muted background (preferably white paper, or a sheet, or even in a light box if you have one), with natural lighting. Use the "macro" function on your camera (usually a little flower) and take a shot of the whole thing. If you need to make the picture massive to get the quality of the shot perfect, then crop it in Photoshop, Paint or any other suitable editing software, and then post it. There are no rules on how you may pose your miniature, but as face-on as possible is preferable.
