How effective is your codex in the world of 5th ed? I had a Dark Angels player in my gaming group of friends but he stopped because he said the new(est) codex sucks. What's your take on it? Still competitive and fun? Or is it an un-hill battle?

If you're playing Deathwing, Ravenwing, or Dualwing, it's solid. Anything resembling a standard Codex army is incredibly limited and overcosted compared to Codex: Space Marines. They're still Marines so they're not terrible on a one for one basis, they just cost more.

If you know what you are doing and the correct way to do it, then any Codex can produce a competitive army. Knowledge and skill are more important than build.

Running a Ravenwing or Deathwing army usually always means some sort of success of staying in the game. If I run a regular Dark Angel force that resembles a normal marine army forget it because our units are more expensive point wise. But the Dark Angels are nasty lethal when played as Deathraven list. A hybrid between Deathwing and Ravenwing. The Deathwing teleport in on turbo boosted bikes. Plus we can mix and match our terminator squads with Hammers and Shields and Cyclone Launchers. Since the new FAQ we got, DA has been competitive again only if you run a Deathwing. Ravenwing or Deathraven list.
