Hey guys, I was just wondering if there are any good ranges of roman army miniatures; legionaires, centurions and the like (ideally plastic) which are roughly the same size as warhammer ones.

I've had a quick look, but with the exception of warhammer, I know f-all about f-all when it comes to what's good quality and what isn't.

Cheers,
Smithy

Not that much in 28mm plastic.

Warlord Games do some in plastic. A lot of the range is still metal.

There are heaps in 15mm and 25/28mm metal.

Try Wargames Foundry. Unfortunately Google can't find them at the moment. I think they had a great idea to change their name.

Thanks for both of your help.
I don'd mind the command or other occasional model being metal, it's just when I have hundreds of them.

I'll give these a look.

I don't think they are that good quality, but Wargames Factory makes some very cheap (48 for $30) Roman plastic figures in 28mm:

Plastics - Warlord Games, dont go near the Wargames Factory ones.

Metals - Literally hundreds to choose from!

The Wargames Factory Romans are better than most people give them credit for. They take paint much better than one would think - although I do have plans to replace the sub-par command figures with metals (some day...)

The Warlord Games Romans are well sculpted, although on the small end of 28mm scale.

What sort of project are you working on? There are figures from a great number of companies, and they span the range of Republic Rome, Early Imperial and Late Imperial.

Early Imperial.
The square rectangle shielded, shoebrush helmeted ones.

I'd just like to have a historically accurate company of around 100 or so men, that I can work on.

Foundry, Gripping Beast, 1st Corps and Warlord would be the best to look at in terms of quality.

The classic Early Imperial are the "Asterix" pattern though of course over half the legions of the period wore chainmail rather than plate armour.

You have to be a bit careful choosing "Roman" army models since they were around between about 500BC and 500AD, and changed a lot during the time.

Warlord Games romans are good, but they are a true 28mm scale.

Since hes buying historical, 9 times out of ten it will be true scale

and even then it varies from company to company

Not a history buff myself too much but TMP has an ancients board where you can probably find some experts on this manner
