A hearty 'Howdy Y'all' from the armpit of the south, Columbia, South Carolina! Please feel free to call me Dag.

I recently broke a four year addiction to a popular mmo and have been looking for something suitably geeky to do with all this newly rediscovered free time. After some careful thought and some research I am seriously considering attempting to get back into Warhammer 40k after a hiatus of something like 15 - 20 years.

Back in 2nd edition I played a good bit, and had amassed a respectable collection of unpainted, primed, and poorly painted 40k models, mostly orks, but also some space marines and some IG. At the time I was more into the gaming aspect than the modeling aspect of the hobby, and given the expense involved, that may be why I dropped it just before the orks were revamped.

This time around I promised myself I wouldnt play with unpainted or merely primed models if I were to pick it up again. Unfortunately, when I went to look for my box of models in my mother's attic I discovered that at some point in the past couple decades they seem to have been (accidentally) thrown out. So I will be starting from scratch.

So far I've managed to get a good deal on a used core rulebook and several codexes. I've been trying to familiarize myself with the 5th edition rules and reading through forums, batreps, and whatnot. At this time I am still trying to decide on an starting army, and work up the courage to check out the scene at my local gaming store.

Anyways, I ought to be posting a couple army lists soon in the hopes of getting some feedback before I commit to buying models. If anyone has any beginner army advice I'm all ears.

Peace,
Dagormundo

Thanks for the welcomes.

It's been a relatively mild week for us with highs around 100, lows around 80, ~75% humidity. At the moment it's 95 at 10:30 at night. Cola tends to be 5 - 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the state.

Welcome Dag! Good on you breaking a way from an MMO for a bit. I've done so a couple of times (I'm on my 3rd or 4th break from WoW).
