I currently have a large 40k army and dont really get to play that offend .Ive been looking at getting into warmachine but since i dont get to play as often as i would like i dont know if it would be worth dropping a few hundred dollars on something that will be sitting in the closet . Should i buy some warmachine and see if my gaming increases or just stick to playing 40k when i can?

Maybe if you aren't motivated to play 40k, you can sell your 40k army to finance a warmachine army. That way, if you find that you are not motivated by warmachine either, you aren't really out any more money.

Warmachine is bad, you should avoid it.

Counter argument: Warmachine is awesome, you should play it.
Now, to add something constructive to the argument:
Fortunately, you don't have to drop a few hundred dollars to play Warmachine; a starter set is $50, and a 35 point army (which is the point value that people very often play) will cost around $150.
With that said, it all depends. Why don't you get to play 40K very often? If it's a matter of time, Warmachine won't be much different.
If it's a matter of finding opponents... well, are there more Warmachine players than 40K players in your area? If so, then it might be worth it. If not, then it won't be, unless you have some friends who might be interested in playing as well.
If you do have time, and if there is a sufficient community to support it, I would recommend trying to get a demo of the game before spending money on it to decide whether you like it or not.

Yeah, it's awesome if you want to play a collectible card game with toy soldiers that's populated by legions of "that guy" that make the best of the worst of 'Ard Boys look like a fresh summer breeze.

*shrug* Maybe I just have awesome game stores locally, but I've never encountered "that guy" in any system I've played, GW, PP, or otherwise.
Actually, maybe once in Heroclix, of all things, when it first started to gain momentum. I don't even remember when that was... 2002? I honestly can't remember the last time I played against TFG.
The only thing that's CCG-ish about it is the truckloads of special rules, which are all still more clearly written than those in GW systems and the fact that all stats are written on cards (which doesn't make it a CCG any more than it would if you printed out 40K unit stats on cards instead of on army builder painter). Much of it is worded like a CCG, admittedly (IE, target model gains +2 Strength for one turn, then the effect ends), but I don't view this as a negative. I'm going to assume you weren't using "toy soldiers" as a disparaging remark, as this entire hobby, GW or otherwise, revolves around playing with toy soldiers.

If you don't get to play that often, but are still enjoying the painting/modeling/collecting aspects of the hobby then I'd go with whichever game and/or faction has models or background that interests you the most. Based on frequency of play, a great many "gamers" are really more miniature painters and collectors anyway. I was in this camp for the first 15 years as a hobbyist.
I give similar advice to beginning guitarrists and bassists when they pick out their first instrument. "Pick an instrument that makes you want to pick it up when you look at it. You're going to spend alot of time alone with it and if it doesn't inspire you then you're not going to pick it up often. "
The only other point I would make in favor of WM would be that depending on the gaming culture near you, having more than one game might make it easier to find a game.

Wow. I'm pretty sure I should frame this post and put it on a wall. I'm guessing you played and are just very, very bitter because you had a bad gaming group.
Warmachine's aesthetic doesn't appeal to me at all, but I understand it's popular. 40k is the most popular miniatures game out there though, and holding onto your 40k stuff means you'll probably have a better chance of getting a game or two in. You should find a gamestore and see if you can try out Warmachine before diving in head first.

It all depends on your question.
Are you just not motivated to play ?
Do you not want to play ?
or
Do you not have enough time to play ?
If its the 3rd option, i suggest giving warmachine a try for sure.
The standard size games are 35 pts, and you can finish a game in 30-45 min. Instead of a 2 hour long game of 40k.
This could increase the amount of games your able to play.

Sell blood and buy minis. Then you can fill your closet with minis and not feel half as bad as if you filled it with blood. Problem solved!

When TFG is involved, the game doesn't matter. TFG makes everything no fun.
Warmachine is kinda neat. Lots of emphasis on building combos and synthesis between units. On the down side, power creep is a constant compaion; they are constantly releasing new stuff that males older stuff obsolete. In that one sense, it is kinda like a CCG.
It's not my cup of tea, though. I'm no big fan of a) skirmish games, and b) steampunk. Besides, the wife would kill me if I started a whole new game rather than just expanding the old one. I'm kinda OCD and want to have everything in the book...
TFG makes it no fun by always having the biggest and baddest and most point efficient and grinding your face in it... just like he does in WFB/ 40K.

Completely untrue. Units from Prime are just as playable as those newly released in Wrath.
BAD INFINITE. We can't get this devolve into a PP/ GW/whoever is a terrible game system maker. So, to the OP. If you really want to, you can sell your 40k stuff - maybe not all of it, but whatever you feel as though you don't need. If you're interested in Warmachine, I'd suggest waiting until September, when the 2-player starter set is released. If you can scrounge $100, you'll have a great way of introducing people to the game.
Alternatively, you could always look around and see if there are nearby gaming groups. See what they're playing, and if you like it, join in.

Why not try playing smaller point totals?
I find that my son's 9 year old attention span (as well as my short adult attention span) is perfect for like 600 point games.

The reason i dont play is because the nearest store is crappy and the next closest store i cant make it on their 40k game night where as their warmachine night i can.

That's a good reason to start Warmahordes then. There is no reason to get rid of your 40K armies, you may use them in the future, things change. Personally I started out as a builder/painter. I then found a good gaming group and played every week, sometimes multiple times for years. I've recently got a new house, job and baby so I've been too busy to game. So I've gone back to modeling and painting again.
If you decide to take the Warmahordes plunge, ask around about the differences between Warmachine and Hordes. It's going to be important to match your playstyle. I personally love Hordes, it has a certain all out playstyle I enjoy.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness. ADB |

Don't sell your 40k models. The biggist regrets I hear from people that are getting back into the game after stopping for a while is "I never should have sold my army". Its really expensive to get back in and you loose all your hard work of modeling/painting you put in it. collections are worth more then the price/space they take up, thats why I wish I never sold my... comics, old toys, baseball cards, etc.

If thats the case, i say give it a try, its a fun game.
When you first get into it, youll get stomped some until you learn what the armies do.
Unlike 40k, you need to know what the warcaster your against does.. and not just the army.
As for power creep ?
I call BS on that, the p version of all the warcasters are just as strong as the ones that our coming out now for alot of things.

I agree with this. If you've got emotional investment in a fully-painted army, don't sell it. I haven't sold my SoB despite not having played in years, and don't plan to do so.
Also while learning and getting into a new game it may make sense to take the 40k stuff, then take the new game so you can play whichever opponents are into... And there's always "OK, we'll play a game of 40k, then let's try my new game."
