Hi all,

I did some searching but had no luck--anyone have any good techniques or ideas on how to make a drop pod look like it, well, dropped from space. I'd like the bottom third or so to look a bit scorched at high speed.

Thanks in advance,
Fej

Hmm an idea might be a drybrush of black then silver, to give it a burnt look. I will try and look for some pictures though.

I would imagine lots of browns and blacks, some underlying metal showing, and of course a gentle drybrushing of red with some highlighted orange to represent the heat radiating off the bottom portions.

Lost in the warp. Halp!

Actually I'd probably use the same technique I use for the barrels of my weapons.

Drybrush scorched brown (moving up on the model, since you're doing a drop pod), then drybrush over a smaller section with black. If you wanted to get super fancy, you could paint a glowing-metal effect on the edges of the bottom of the 'pod (that metal can get reeeal hot...) with red-to-orange, and just a touch of white at the end.

Black drybrushing, followed by some very light bronze works for scorching. Coupled with upward oil streaking it's a quite nice effect. That's what I did on this pod:

Pretty much everyone's been spot on so far, controlled drybrushing up from the base in metallics and then the colors of your weathering if it's browns to represent scorching or black to represent burns and of course chipped and flaked paint! I did a quick version for my drop pod here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/128781-raven%20guard%20drop%20pod.html?m=2
you can use washes as well to get some depth to the look and also look at burnt car pics for referencing.
