Eye of Terror

I have been getting more and more serouis about painting my models and have been spending alot of time on them, i have a book from GW name How to Paint Citadel Models and it talks about some stuff i get and some i don't and my biggest thing that i don't get it s highlighting, i just don't get it and it is driveing me up the wall with frustration, please help.

Could you be more specific? What is it in particular about highlighting that you are having problems with?

In general i don't know the techniues, i don't have the slightest clue how it even works. I don't know how highlighting is done is what i am saying

Okay well...

If you really don't get highlighting at all, then perhaps drybrushing might be a good place to start. Drybrushing is a technique that will give you quite nice natural highlights with very little effort. You won't be winning Golden Deamon or anything with it but it might help you to understand how highlights fall and where they are supposed to go.

the only trouble with dry brushing is that is really doesn't work on flat surfaces.

edgelighting is a better way to explain things to a beginner: When painting a flat, or slightly curved, surface just add a little white paint to your base colour and put it on the very edge of the surface. If you want the effect to be stronger; add more white to your base colour and put it only the most extreme edges of the surface

Adding a wash at this point is a great way to 'smooth out' the colours: Paint the wash liberally over the whole area and it will give you much more natural shading, even on relatively flat surfaces.
