Not too much info but apparently this is one of the two games that *poof* appeared in FFG's displays at GenCon.

Imperious Rex, a game which appears to be a spin-off of Twilight Imperium that focuses more on ship-to-ship combat. Both games have a price tag of $59.99 and estimated release date of Christmas 2011.

That's all I could find on the Gen Con coverage blogs I've found. I'm actually in the same boat in that I was going to go with Leviathan but I may choose this now... it all depends I guess on the rules. I expect this one to have more of a board game feel coming from FFG whereas the Leviathan game should probably feel more like a minis game. Of course, that's just pure conjecture on my part.

I asked about this game at GenCon, and the FFG people really didn't have a lot of information about it. These were raw prototypes, real early "Under the radar" teaser. They looked very pretty.

You know, I've always wanted to try TI, but I've been put off by its reputation as being a long game to play and a lack of potential players. This might be a good way to get into the universe, though. Certainly, those minis look pretty nice!

The spaceships are from the Dune remake by FFG. They are bombers that act the same way as the sandstorm in Dune.

Pretty cool ships if you ask me, I'd add them to Battlefleet Gothic anyday.
