Guardsman with Flashlight

I am getting prepared for the Ard' Boyz tournament at my local game store this weekend so I need some clarifacation on a few different rules before the dice start rolling. My first question is pretty simple. My Infantry Platoon consists of both Infantry Squads and Heavy Weapons teams, more times than not my Heavy Weapons teams have an Infantry Squad in front of them to give them a 4+ cover save. I recently saw something online that states that because these two squads are in the same Platoon I can get the benefit of the 4+ cover save without having to give cover saves while firing through my Infantry Squad.
If this is true Ive been playing this all wrong for some time, Id appreciate any feedback on this.

You may only trace LOS through members of your own unit.
With IG it seems people frequently get unit and FOC slot confused.

As above.
In other words your heavy weapons squad gains cover but anything it shoots at also gains cover saves from its shooting. (while it's behind your platoon squad)

Alright so then even though the Platoon counts as 1 Troop Choice, all the squads count as being individual units? This is a relief because thats how Ive been playing but there are some real Rule Mongers coming from out of town and I didnt want to be taken advantage of since Im fairly new to IG. Thanks for the clarifacation.

Yes - choice /= unit. this is important for DoW, as you can onluy deploy two troop UNITS, not your entire platoon

For DOW also remember that a dedicated transport is a unit all on it's own.
So if you deploy a unit in it's dedicated transport you're done with your two troop units.

Unless, of course, you blob them. Then they are one unit.

Remember that you can only blob the normal infantry squads though and nothing else.
