I know this was specified in 4th edition iirc, but i'm not so sure it's still written somewhere if the defiler model takes into account the legs and claws for distances. As i've always play it is only the body counts which is roughly the size of a dreadnought. Again the last time i used a defiler was like 5 years ago so not sure if that rule was kept around for 5th.

Generally the legs and claws will count, however the little spikey bitz dont. My reasoning is that Legs and Claws are not just decorative, conversely the spikey bitz are. BTW I run 3 in my black legion army and no one has ever argued with my interpretation in a game.

Normally the Chaos guys that I play count just the body, not the legs or claws since they are moveable and poseable. We use all measurments regauding them from that point for assaults range etc, and we never have any problems. I'm not really sure what you would use as the "hull" so I would just ask an opponent and agree on something.

At my LGS we use the body as well since must of us played since 4th and it was specified there, now i was just curious if this changed after all as mentioned above the claws and legs are kinda decorative and actually if assembled as instructed the dreadnought arms (claws) arent glued so i could open them when i wanted to assault and win some good 4" with them.

I don't remember hearing anything in particular it is just that is the "hull" of the vehicle. (Which a walker is.) So I don't know.

We have never seen the legs as decorative, and count them as viable for assault purposes--and so we also consider them viable for shooting purposes.

That said, there is no rule allowing you to move them during the course of the game.

Yes I know this but it is a friendly game and we don't try and rules lawyer each other like that. Its agreed upon before hand, and affects him as well as he uses one of them for assaults. It also makes for some interesting poses on the battlefield such as him charging a trygon as the owner goes "gives us a hug," right before the trygon tore up the defiler. He also uses the claws to mark a crater when it goes boom.

Like what?

I think I am missing something.

I mounted mine on a cd as the base ..I don't see why it should be the only walker without a base when all the others i can think of have them. I didnt do this to gain a advantage from a huge base i just got tired of all the measuring from legs or some say the hull and then others say the legs again etc and it solves the problem with the heavy flamer touching the legs also

Like I said just discuss it with your opponent before hand as most players are pretty good at coming up with something fair for both sides, and if at a tournament just ask a TO before hand.

Why would you need to discuss it with your opponent when page 72 of the rulebook uses the Defiler as an example and specifically says to measure to the legs and other limbs?

I knew I had read that somewhere. . .I had been scouring FAQs.

Thanks solkan. I am getting slow.
