Subject: Ork spores questions.
|
 |
Resolute Ultramarine Honor Guard
|
In short:
-How long does it take for spore to become a full grow Ork boy?
-And after his "birth" what he do first? Do he get some nearby materials, make underpants, pants, socks, shoes, and then weapon. Or just a weapon and goes killing?
-And do Ork "advance" from boy to Nob or Nob are created like ordinary Boys?
P.S. In advance - this is not Ork hate thread. Just saying...

All Orks start as "Boyz" of some kind or another. The more they kill, the more loot they get, the bigger they get, and eventually become Nobs or Flashgitz or whatever. The biggest ork of them all becomes Boss.
Orks come out of their spore-pods fully grown. There are no ork "children". They immediately pick up a weapon and look for something to kill. Pants and such come later, if their pack of Orks they are around are suitably advanced to have recognized the need or desire for clothes and armor.

Orks have to fight long enough to become Nobs, they are not born into it. After he is born he will look for the nearest clan or if the Waaagh! already left the planet or area or was defeated, then he will become a feral ork.

I don't think it's been specified how long it takes for orks to develop in the cocoons.
When they do emerge, the yoofs instinctively find their way to the nearest Ork settlement (as I recall, tracking by way of the airborne spores). If they're a long ways out, they'd fashion spears or clubs in order to hunt food during the journey. Clothing, from what I've seen, is pretty much just decorative and used to show status (hence why grots are usually just seen wearing loincloths)
All orks are capable of becoming nobz (or eventually warbosses), if they're aggressive enough and manage to not get themselves killed in the process
*edit* and no, snotlings are not young grots, they are a different subspecies

There should be an archive on this forum that has the information gathered from the internet, users, and the wargaming community on all the information about the 40k races that have been discussed and researched. It would be so convenient to have all that information in one place. I just find the life styles and nature of the many different warhammer races so intriguing.

Amusingly enough, Wikipedia actually has a pretty complete (not the word I wanted, but eh) article on most of the 40k races.

Depends on if he's born a normal Boy or an Oddboy. Although an Ork CAN change their profession after a fashion (for example, being inspired to become a kommando later in life), generally speaking the more specialized oddboyz such as Mekboyz and Painboyz are born that way. Most Orks never get such an urge, but then again, most Ork boyz aren't special. Hm. Almost sounds like human sexuality...

It also depends on if orks are still present in the area, if they are not the spores will start developing the ork ecosystem from the ground upstarting with fungus , squigs, the snots and so on.

Correct. clothes serve other purposes-- protection (from the elements or combat), style, camoflage, or to fit in with the group.

Orks from Fantasy (where Blood Bowl originates) and Orks from 40K are not actually the same race.
The Fantasy Orks are, basically, the Tolkein idea of an Ork, a nasty thing that tries to kill heroes and other good guys. Otherwise, they're as "normal" as humans, elves and other races are in the Old World.
The Orks of 40K are an intelligent fungus/animal hybrid alien thing, and thus have no gender or reproductive organs. The argument could be made that the entire Ork is a reproductive organ... but I'm not going to go there.

The fantasy orcs have slowly drifted more towards the 40k fluff, but their reproductive habits and exact relation to other greenskins has never been explicitly stated like it is in 40k. Greenskin females are never mentioned, and it seems likely that unlike in 40k, goblins can exist without orcs around and orcs without goblins. They typically live in separate tribes but join up together when on the warpath, though some orc tribes may have goblin "helpers" around and some goblin tribes ruled by particularly cunning bosses may have a few orcs around as hired muscle.

yea im familiar with fantasy fluff and I agree with you, there are even some cases of huge hordes made up of both orcs and goblins being led by a goblin boss. See Grimblades.

Maybe they view their excretory organs as "private" parts.

Ork spores can't travel through the Warp, so they can only get from one planet to another on an traveling via spaceship/space hulk; they don't spontaneously show up in someone's cabbage field. The precautions consist of fighting off the rampaging greenskins.

And burning all the Ork bodies they can find after the battles, followed probably by heavy napalm saturation of the battlefield, any Ork camps, any known paths of travel used by the Orks, anywhere an Ork might have sat down, stood for more than ten seconds, thought about standing for a few seconds, saw from a distance, even if it was on the telly...

But can't ork spores survive in space? I'm sure I've read that somewhere, it might be old fluff by now but it makes sense that a spore could wait untill it's in a possition best suited to it.

They can survive in space, yes... but they can't travel through the Warp. Given that space has no wind, spores at one point in open space will not be able to get to another point in space without some means of transportation.

If an ork is spooring into hard vacuum, and some spores happen to randomly be hit by an asteroid, it's possible the asteroid could take the spore somewhere in the galaxy. A bit vague even by orky standards, because it would probably be an effectivey infinite drift through empty nothingness.

But it also means that even if the Greenskin Menace is effectively destroyed on all the planets and moons and asteroids and space hulks and EVERYTHING in the Galaxy, there'd still be a chance of a few spores landing on a backwater and restarting the whole cycle.
That, and apparently they've travelled to other Galaxies.

Orks are constantly spooring. Everywhere Orky boots have trod, is a chance for another Ork colony to rise. How Orks got out of the galaxy... well, I don't know, but I suppose it's possible with an out-of-control Rok or something.
