My take on Grimnar for a local painting comp. I'd like to know what you guys think?

Looks absolutely amazing!!!!! Love it! No criticism just praise!!!!!

That is a pretty realistic representation of a wolf's fur. The base is what will help this model stand out for being judged.

My only critique is that the groin area and thigh/knee pads are not shaded. A careful black lining or grey lining may help this, or just a wash, but it took a while for me to notice that.

I forgot about one of my favorite parts of this piece, the freehand on the shoulderpad. I can't for the life of me ever get that to look right!

Thanks guys..hmm..it may be the photo because i'm sure I shaded it. Otherwise I missed it!

It's in the local GW store cabinet atm so can't do much about it..thanks though, I'll bear it in mind for next time!

Yeah the great wolf was a bugger to paint! I'm still not entirely happy with the head but I was going back and forth and this was about as good as I could get..

Ninja, out of interest..why a blue wash? wouldn't that make him look a bit ultra mariney?

Man oh man I like that yellow bolter! It makes that arm as interesting as the axe, which is tough competition. I dig the freehanding and subtle shading/highlighting, and the fur is very convincing. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but there's something weird going on with the paint around the inside of his axe arm elbow. I'm not a big fan of the weathering on his feet either, since it looks more like unintentional green paint splotches on an otherwise terriffic paintjob. From head to base this is a really solid model though, and I like it a lot.

Yeah I know what you mean about the weathering...that's what you get for putting the finishing touches on a model at 5am I guess....It's weathering powder which looks a little better in person but I wasn't sure about it. I think I'll give it a miss next time..thanks for the feedback everyone!

I agree, it's a great job only the face/hair seem to be washed out a bit and get lost in the model. The face should be the focal point. Maybe make the hair slightly darker to frame the face in a little.

Not got a Space wolves codex so I don't know how good it is but since it was probably by 'eavy metal I'll take that as a high compliment indeed!
