Hello everyone!
Just got AOBR and a Vindicator but the manufactorum has ground to a halt. I haven't been painting or building for quite a while and I need some motivation getting back into it. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks, G

I have the same problem on a regular basis, I find a good tidy up and sort out of projects usually helps. Also dig up old editions of White Dwarf and codexes and the like usually gets my hobby juices flowing!
Check my blood angels blog (shameless plug right there ;-) ) but you might find your mojo!

Pretty much since 2nd edition. I think one of the dreadnoughts or maybe mephiston is my oldest model! :-)
I keep trying to start new armies and "finish" the blood angels, but I just do the other army and then go back to the blood angels!

I find painting in groups of 3 works best for me. I can usually paint 3 miniatures in about the same amount of time it takes me to paint one, because less time is wasted per model waiting for things to dry or thinking about what to do next.
I've tried painting 10 at a time, but it was a bit too repetitive. I find myself really wanting to move on to the next step, but I still have 6 more guys to bring up to speed, and it becomes tiring.
3 is a good number for me. I think it also makes the painting feel more personal. As 3 is an easy number to hold in your head and for each miniature it is a bit easier to project a sense of character and individuality.
With larger groups like 5-10 you stop appreciating your miniatures as individuals and start seeing them as "just another bolter guy" etc... This is makes them less enjoyable to paint, and thus less likely that you will do a good job.

First sort and clean yor work space & WIP's, next tell your buddies you got all these painted models you'll bring to the next game, then start painting said models.

When I need some motivation I just go to www.awesomepaintjob.com and watch some of Les' great tutorial videos on his youtube channel. That always gets me jazzed.

Tried doing 5 at a time but I think Smacks is right
3 may indeed be the magic number.
Also agree about getting the bench tidy and shifting other wip of the way.

I did a group of 32 kroot assembly-line style and it worked out great. It took a while but the results were extremely consistent. By the time I got to the last model, the first was dry and ready for the next step.

I tend to paint in infrequent little spurts. I also do small batches of three for most things, but I tackle larger and/or more intricate models (like HQ or vehicles) solo. One thing I've found is that it's easier for me to continue a painting project than to start a new one.
If my models are primed, I may have to force myself to lay down the basecoats, but once those colors are blocked in, the models start to look like models. Somehow, even though I know damn well that most of the painting lies ahead, it feels like there's an end in sight. If I put everything down again, even if it's weeks before I come back to it, all that's left is detailing. Much easier to sit down to finish off a few guns and get sucked into detailing the whole lot than to try and tell yourself you need to finish everything, right then and there.
Knowing this about myself, I also try line up the start and end of projects. When I've finished one batch, I'll need to prime another before I can consider painting them, so I make a point of priming the new lot when I varnish the old one (also cuts down on the number of times I need to worry about fumes and undisturbed drying space). Priming in such small batches may not be the most efficient method, but it follows from that whole "achievable goals" vein of thinking (plus, I think the minis look better naked and gray than sporting a coat of "why don't you love me enough to finish the job" black).

Get some inspiring music kicking and just rock on! Also, limit yourself in some fashion, or promise yourself a reward if you can finish it.

All you have to do is just get some riends together and make an event out of it, I have always found that painting together with friends you can have idle talk with, makes it much easier to paint.

I took a couple weeks off to work on my garage. I found “passing by” my model desk difficult but stayed away… now I’m getting motivated again and picked up a brush tonight…. I would suggest just looking at other people’s work in the gallery… I did that tonight too….. and now I’m painting again…

I just listen to music or watch something on Netflix on my computer as I paint. Also doing 3 or so at a time will help with the repetitiveness.
