I'm pretty sure I saw a thread about this before but I cannot find it. I just though about that when commenting on a BA army list. Does the Shield give the vehicle obscured status thus giving a 4+ cover instead of a 5+?
FAQ:
Q: Do vehicles gain a cover save from Shield of
Sanguinius?
A: Yes.
As you can see the FAQ does not specify which save they the vehicle gets (5+ or 4+). Now I am basing myself ont he ork KFF that gives 5+ cover to units but that makes the vehicle obscured. I see the shield the same way imo since a vehicle only has two type of cover (4+ or no cover at all). I was wondering what the community though of this or if it has been discussed before, where is the thread (or the result of the thread)

I don't have my BA codex right here but I think it is a 5+. Vehicles are allowed to take any cover save that is granted to them. If their hull is cover more than 50% by tall grass the tank would only get a 5+ cover while if it was impossible to see the facing you're shooting at but you can still see the vehicle, the tank would get a 3+.

That's largely wrong. Vehicles can get all types of cover saves, 3+ for being 50% obscured by a fortification or shooting at a facing you are not in, and 5+ for being obscured by barbed wire or a hedge. KFF provides the ability to be obscured in the open in addition to the 5+ save, which is defined as 4+ unless specified otherwise. Shield of Sanguinus does not provide the ability to be obscured in the open, so you would just get the regular save.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Not exactly... With vehicles it's the 50% rule. If it's less than 50% visible (obscured) and you are shooting at the arc you see, it's a 4+ save. If you can only see the arc you arc you are not in, it's a 3+. Doesn't matter whether it's a cardboard wall or a fortification.

Except, nothing of this is based on rules. You might want to reread BRB pg. 62, especially the fifth paragraph. You'll find it works exactly as I described.

Jidmah has it right.
Vehicles when obscured 50% or more recieve the same cover save as infantry would do. So if infantry receive a 4+ so does the vehicle - but if infantry only get a 6+ then te vehicle would only get a 6+
