I am what you would call a terrible painter , i want my army to look decent so that would require skills that i dont at the moment have. would dipping in my case be worth it to paint a basic blood angels army. In the long and the short of it would one in my situation be.....made fun of for dipping my models????????????????????????????????????????????????????

You could probably just do GW washes instead of dipping. Dipping takes some effort and you can do washes with similar results with no extra tools.
Just paint a basecoat with the best effort you can and don't worry about drybrushing or highlighting. Then wash the whole thing with devlan mud or something.

The lack of proper punctuation, the orkticons, the excessive question marks:
Not sure if serious?
If this does happen to be a proper thread, well, I don't think dipping your Blood Angels would be too advantageous. I'd advise giving them a good coating with a bit of watered-down Devlan Mud.

The Army Painter dips are all shaded with brown tones, so I don't think it'll work well for your army scheme. I agree with the washes though.
Devlan Mud (brown, mostly black) and Badab Black (black) are a couple of good washes that could do some wonders if you only know kind of what you're doing.

Gotta go with the others on this one. The dips you can buy can be tricky to use, but the washes are very straight forward to use and would have less of a chance of messing things up for you. Plus with them being all brown shades usually, it could create a tone you don't want.

Google les' wash recipe and pick up a small bottle(unless you want more) of a liquid matte medium. Using Liquitex brand inks I make a wash of 10 Napthol Crimson 10 red oxide 10 burt sienna and 30 dark umber. It's a ruddy brown color that's perfect. Plus you can make other washes too.

dont dip the actual model, just paint it on with a big brush
much more control and much less cleanup, ends up looking alot better.

Somehow I don't think the OP is that advanced into painting yet AustonT.
I suggest simply using Devlan Mud/Badab Black washes. Black for shadows, mud for dirt/grime. Later you can venture into oil paints, gloss coats and such. Use a larger then normal brush and apply enough for it to pool in in recessed areas. Apply more/less as needed
Also look into "dry burshing" to add color to small raised details.
A quick way to do flesh would also be to pick a skintone the put a Ogryn Flesh wash over it to bring out the details.
-edit- Also, you don't dip the model in paint, you dip the painted model in a varnish http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Dipping_Tyranids . I also find this article helpful http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Five_Colors
Oh, and paint light colors first, then dark (you can paint over mistakes with the next darker paint)

i wouldnt and im an ork player
i find that even if you suck at painting (me), dipping just takes away from the personal feel in a model. Dipping is all right, and i have nothing against it, but i find it tricky and not as nice in the end product

Truth is learning to make washes and using them makes painting SO much easier. For a relatively small investment of time and effort the qualitative results are massive.

Do what you like OP,
I prefer the dip and use it on almost everything now. I apply it with a brush and get results that I'm very happy with. Check out the Union of the Green in my gallery.
Dip is a different technique than washes, which I tend to use on larger models. Dip not only darkens the crevases, it can give you a shading effect and a false hightlight (if the base colors are suitabley light) effect that is quite nice also.
I recommend going to the Army painter sites and viewing a few of their tutorial videos. Also, go to their gallery section. They have a few different galleries with blood angels and some others with red armored units. If you like the results, do the dip. If not, use washes.
Also, I use Minwax Polyshades intead of AP the nearest equivlents are
Pecan for Soft Tone
Antique Walnut for Strong tone
Tudor (I can only find this at Ace Hardware) for Dark Tone.
I'd give a test model a dip and see if you like it. If you don't, toss it in a cup of mineral spirits before it dries and you're only out 4-8 bucks for a can of minwax.
