Ok so i have 4 old first edition hive tyrants and 6 of the fugly first wave tyrant guards (bone shields & whips) that I hate. I have been contemplating either making the tyrants into guards for the current big metal tyrant and/or converting them into Alpha Warriors. I want to magnetize the arms and possibly the bases so that they can be used for either.

Question
1 what size base do the new guards come on?
2 What do you all think about using the tyants as guards on correct sized bases?

The guards look radically different. You might do better with converting the old guards into brood lords (heavy GS to the face), possibly lictors, and then tyranid prime. Thing is, I have never handled the model, but from what I've seen in images, it'd need an extensive repairjob to its entire head no mater what you went and did with it.

Good news for you: The current and previous Guards all use the same sized bases, so you're fine in that regard. Same for the old HT, so you're still good for the choice you want to use since the Tyranid Prime has never been stated to be any larger on a base than the standard Warriors.

As for using the Tyrants as guards, I'm all for it.

I'd say save em for the Swarmlord, just to further show his status as the Tyrant of Tyrants (plus I'm all in favor of having variations in units... right now working on getting all my termagant heads to be different per unit so I can pick them out).
