I played a few times with this list and i am not very fond about it. It does need alot of attention. Please mind the fail safe detonator it is not that great that i expected.

Drop some of the extra stuff on the commander lke that fail safe detonator you mentioned and with those points get multi-trackers for your hammerheads. They're essential. Also downgrade your shield drones (save for the broadsides' drones) to gun drones as practically you'll always be in cover so the drones still get a 4+ save against lascannons and such. Then go on and drop those kind of useless fast attack drones and with all those points get a kroot squad to screen and bubble wrap your precious troops and suits. That might help. Otherwise it looks fine unless you want to go all mech.

I never played with kroot before. I kinda don't get them. Yes they are very cheap but they are VERY weak, they don't even have an armour save (only +6 with shaper). But i will drop the drone squad and give them a go, maybe i will field them more often.

Sometimes they will have success but do not expect them to cause much damage or last long. Many players make the mistake and send them to places of certain doom. Also outflanking in objective missions is a nice change to the normal tau tactics. I suggest that don't take shapers or at least do not purchase the armour saves. The kroot mainly rely on available cover. Even though they are weak, in a sense fire warriors are just as weak or even weaker against close combat, that's what I think.

Swap out one of the foot warrior squads for 2x10 man kroot (140 points).

Use them to wrap in KP missions, and one (perhaps two) to outflank in objective missions

As has already been said, you don't want to give your Shas'o too much gear. In fact, taking a Shas'o at all isn't really a good idea too pricey, better off with a Shas'el with Targetting Array.

Dropping all of the shield drones would be a good idea... personally I wouldn't replace them with gun drones, I'd just try to mech up those Fire Warriors. Squads of 6 with Devilfish = scoring Devilfish and protected Fire Warriors. Which is important, 'cause they die easy

Kroot are also good, as a shield for your important units (better to lose kroot than something actually valuable...) and are quite nice on any board with a decent bit of woodland. And they can outflank and grab objectives, whats not to like?

And as said, fast attack gun drone squad = bad. Much too expensive for the amount they don't do

Multi-trackers on hammerheads is also seen as pretty much essential equipment...
