Mmmmppff.

A quick list that would mess with most people at this point level is this:

HQ:
Techpriest

Heavy:
3 LRBT w/ LC

Troops:
3 Meltavets in Chimera

1005pts

Or a variant with a bit more AT and more MC nastiness:
HQ:
Techpriest

Heavy:
2 LRBT

Fast:
Vendetta

Troops:
2 Meltavets w/ additional flamer in Chimera
1 Plasmavets w/ additional flamer in Chimera

1000pts

Hope it helps.

The Techpriest doesn't use any Force Organization chart slot, so you can't use it as the only HQ choice. IG army needs at least 1 HQ unit, in this case a CCS. Besides, it is only worth its points on a tank-heavy armylist. (over 6 tanks, ideally)

The IG needs lots and lots of meatshield infantry in order to work properly. By taking an infantry platoon option instead of vets, you get the PCS, which is very effective when given the right upgrades. Swarm armys will zerg-rush your Leman Russes and vets will get outnumbered.

I would also drop the Vendetta, since its not that good, tbh. A rather small guard army doesn't neccessarily need lots of heavy tanks and fast units, but objective completing infantry and lots of regular guardsmen. The vets are ideal for completing assassinations or hit-and-run strikes.

Finally, the only elites unit worth having is either PBS or Stormtroopers (in some situations).

Uhm, just because a techpriest doesn't use any slots doesn't mean it's not a HQ.

I've run a lot of infantry heavy lists and it can work very effectively, but these lists where coming from the other angle, lots of AV instead of meatshields. Also, I find it hard to argue that an LRBT would need 'lots and lots of meatshields', as it has AV 14/13/10. I'm sorry to hear that you don't like the Vendettas, In my experience they are gold and I wouldn't normally leave home without at least one. Vendettas are also pretty hard to 'meatshield', they tend to be too far up.

And the point was to create a quick list that would mess with people at this level as well as having good options for scoring. Also, did I mention that it's fun. These lists aren't supposed to be grand tournament winners, but rather quick, fun lists to get together and run with. They aren't necessarily 'the best,. but they are hardly the worst either.

But fine, here's an infantry list for you. CCS and PCS make heavy use of orders, LC:s mince anything large enough to warrant it, enough LC:s to keep some mobile and still be a threat. 2 bare ISs to run and grab objectives and basically just harass stuff.

HQ:
CCS w/ vox, AC

Heavy:
Manticore (for the look on your opponent when you roll a 5 or 6.)

Troops:
2 PCS w/ vox
8 IS w/ LC, vox
2 IS

995 pts

Add flamer where appropriate to get to a 1k.

Just checked the INAT FAQ and though it's not official it allows a techpriest to be taken as the required HQ. It's stated as a clarification on pg 73.

In that case I have mistaken. I apologize for that.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the Vendetta. I just prefer to use it against an opponent with lots of tanks. If that is the situation, then Vendetta all the way. Against regular infantry, I prefer a Valkyrie with rocket pods.

And yeah, it kind of depends on the type of army you are playing against when you are making these lists. My list is pretty good on taking down armor, while your list is good against both tanks and heavy infantry. And of course, fun is the most important aspect of this hobby. If you really like a special unit (like my priest), then add it without hesitation. I admit, your list is a lot quicker than mine.
