Thanks Knightley I find throwing summaries together a day or two after while it is still fresh in head way easier than referring to notes or photos a good time later.

Plus it allows me to think about what I might have done differently for future games.

Thanks EDC was a LOT of fun!

Update time:

As mentioned above I got a still on sprue carnifex for nice and cheap (with free lictor and 2nd ed hive tyrant) so I thought I'd put it together:

Gave it the tusked head, spined carapace and scythed tail so it can be differentiated from it's brood mates which have different combos, plus if I do use it as a close combat fex as pictured then it makes sense to have extra stuff to swing around in melee. The arms are magnetised so can be swapped out for shooting options etc.

Also continuing on with the latest acolyte squad for the Cult, here is the latest progress:

Coming along well, and they will be done in the very near future!

Thanks for reading.

Nice job the the acolytesame, the scheme your using for them is really eye-catching.

Everyone loves carnifexs especially when magnetised for different options. Hopefully they'll be awesome in 8th.

Hi all,

The acolyte squad is so very close to finished... just have to paint up the basing and finish a few details on the models themselves and then done.

While I waited for the PVA to dry on the basing material I thought I'd start a side project.

I've had this terminator built and sitting there doing nothing for years, I got it from a White Dwarf along with a Ork...

My younger brother has recently started his own business called Geekhouse NZ, he is dealing with wargaming, esports and pop culture stuff, so I thought as a bit of a opening present I'd paint the terminator in the geekhouse colours which are white and orange.

Here is the first WIP, base coats laid down and will be doing careful washes into all the joints and crevices. I'm also planning on doing the gh symbol freehand onto the orange shoulder pad and the orange shield.

Photo isn't the greatest but you get the idea. I'm planning on getting this done pretty fast as he has a SHadow War event coming up and I'd like to give it to him then

If you want to check out his website it can be found at www.geekhouse.co.nz

Thanks for reading.

Hi all,

So things are ticking along well on the hobby side of life.

I've been helping my brother get his shop up and running with terrain etc so I can help him start running Warhammer Wednesdays, first one is tomorrow night... hopefully we get a couple of tables worth of games going

While helping out little bro, I've also kept going with my own stuff, firstly the second acolyte squad is completed:

Next on the paint list for the Cult is a bit of heavy support, I've just done a couple of base colours so far with a few more to do yet:

So this should keep me busy enough in my personal paint quest

Lastly, I finished the little side project for my brothers shop:

Tried some different techniques on the power armour on this guy, and pretty much my first attempt at freehand on the symbols... I reckon he is pretty good. Colours match the shop itself with the white/orange combo.

My brother is going to base it himself, hence why it is base at the moment.

Thanks for reading!

Nice job on the terminal too, the bone armour looks great, very smooth. What does GH stand for? Something to do with the shop I presume?

Hi all,

Have seen 7th ed out with a game versus my brothers Tau.

Was a bit of annihilation with Hive Fleet Ngaro munching down on some Tau, final score was 12-3 although I had some good draws of the maelstrom cards and ended up with only a few units left on the table by the end.

Highlight was managing to get a min genestealer squad into a building with some stealth suits.... no prizes for guessing who won that little engagement.

Given that 8th is now upon us and genestealers have been buffed somewhat with a 5+ invul I'm looking forward to using them more again

Paintwork on the Cult Leman Russ has been ticking away nicely, almost finished highlights etc.... just need to weather and "Cultify" this one now.

I've ordered a copy of Dark Imperium box set and will be doing up the plague marines as zerg infested terrans on zerg creep bases, so I'm looking forward to getting that little project underway.

Bring on 8th! I'm running a weekly 40k night at my bros shop, so I'm sure I'll get plenty of games in and some epic stories to share, onwards and upwards!

Hi everyone,

Hope all is well and people are enjoying 8th edition. I've played a few games so far and am really enjoying it, is a lot more streamlined I feel and once we all have a better understanding of the new ruleset we will have some awesome games.

I played against my brother recently who has gotten his hands on a few sets of the Primaris Marines... It was a bit nasty for the marines as I managed to take out his heavy hitting squad in alpha strike and he was left a bit under powered to take out my big bugs... however there was an awesome battle between the swarmlord and the captain, with the captain holding his own and eventually dying once he had smacked the swarmlord down to two wounds.... OUCH!

Also finished up the Leman Russ tank for my Genestealer Cult and I am happy with how it turned out.... I wanted a good weathered look as it is "stolen" equipment and maintenance will be lacking. The hatches are reflections of the carapace pattern on the patriarch and genestealers, and of course the icons, a bit of purple, and some slogans.

Next on the paint list is a squad of Neophyte hybrids while I work on building the Death Guard from the Dark Imperium box set... watch this space

Camkierhi - Thanks for the kudos I'm pretty stoked with how far I've come since starting this little thread.

EDC - Haven't used the Cult in 8th yet, but I did use some genestealers in my nid army for a game... they are awesome again!

I did some experimentation today with hot glue, PVA and super glue to see how I'm going to do the Zerg Creep bases for my deathguard, just waiting for it to dry so i can see which worked best. For those that don't know, I'm looking at doing up my deathguard models as zerg infested terrans from starcraft.

That's from the old Catachan Exterminator kit- rather rare now. I have one in a state of disrepair, missing the shroud and the forward hull weapon, has melta sponsons.

Hi all,

Thanks for the info dsteingass! I was wondering but had never got around to looking into it.

Have laid down the base coats on the first neophyte hybrid squad:

Underneath the skin is based red which has given it a bit of a tinge that relates back to the genestealers et al, also trying a couple of different colour combos to get some random squads as opposed to uniform skin tone.

Other cult related things was building 10 old school (blue plastic) genestealers for the cult and I got my hands on a Cult sentinel that I now need to build.

Also finished some PVA and superglue experiments which have come out nicely so will do a bunch of bases up for my "zerg infested terran" death guard models... I'm hoping to have some photos of this side project soon.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers Knightley.

So I played a game last night. A guy wanted to test a 2000pt Imperial Guard list for a tournament he has this weekend...

I got tabled in turn three, it was a major learning experience.

He had 3 massive squads of conscripts, (142 all up) 14 primaris psykers, and a few special characters which buffed all his conscripts so they could do things like fall back and still shoot, or get more shots off etc. He had the pyskers in two chimeras, and then a back line of three basilisks and two manticores.

He deployed his buffing units (Harken etc) in LOS terrain with congo lines leading to each conscript blob, which was spread out all over the place meaning I couldn't deep strike anywhere in his space. Then the artillery was set up on his board edge with chimeras full of pyskers in the middle of it all.

I got first turn, so decided to deep strike my stuff in on my side, got some first turn charges with genestealers and flying hive tyrant etc... my first turn went well, then he had his first turn and WOW.

So much lasgun fire, which didn't do too much, but then his psykers came spilling out of the chimeras and the smiting began... he spammed the smites and targeted my big guys. Swarmlord went down first and that was denying two.... but when there is 14 psychic attacks coming in, i just didn't have the denial power to cope. What he didn't kill with smites he smashed with manticores and basislisks.

Yeah overall I got tabled, but man I learnt sooooo much from this game. HIs list was well researched and geared towards tournament play... mine was/is still a TAC have fun list that I'm still learning with

So, tell me... with your army how would you try and take down that sort of army?

That sounds horrible.

Not sure how i'd deal with that. ...off the top of my head. Storm Raven spam coupled with Scouts.

Smite has to be on the closest unit. So sacrificial scouts, potentially just sat on objectives (wait for maelstrom objectives to come up) , then sit back snd shoot with Storm Ravens.

Termies with storm bolters drop in once some space has been created with SRs. (???)

Hey EDC,

haha yeah it was pretty horrible, seeing a 3 point conscript now being able to shoot 3-4 times a turn and attack 3 times in combat due to the congo line orders, and then realising there was 140 of them was an awesome meat shield, I killed heaps, just not enough.

I like the idea you have in taking it on, and talking to the guy after the game he did say Storm Ravens could cause him some issues.

I think I messed up and when I saw him spread all over his deployment zone I decided to deep strike my units that could do it in the first turn to get in the fight... perhaps I should have held off and tried to get him to collapse in a bit to make some room for the deep strikers, but trying to stay 9 inches away from that much stuff would have been hard I feel as he is a good player as well. Objectives helped him a bit as well as I needed to get into his deployment as there were two objectives in there doh!

Learned HEAPS from this one game though, so thats always good.

A couple of snaps from the game, first one is overview of the battle after my first turn movement, and the second is what his artillery was looking at.

Those Neophyte plastics are GREAT! Very useful for all sorts of Human types. Glad to see the Guard getting some play! I cant wait to play a game myself, I need a few learning games. He spread out to avoid your missiles. I've noticed that everyone playing against guard fears the artillery for some reason.

Not where I should be

Although an obviously very competitive player, (and blooming good on you mate for taking it so well) to be honest it sounds a lot more like what I think meeting a Guard army would be like, a true hail of fire, mass ranks of shots raining in on you. And that many shots are bound to get a few very lucky shots. Many years ago when I used to actually play, on several occasions fielded a fungal wall, i.e. 80 gretchin with their autoguns, hitting on 6's with 6's to wound, they where devastating. People would often laugh at me placing the green wall down, that soon changed to curses as the first round of shooting got under way. Meeting a true guard army should be like hitting a brick wall, no good running straight at it, got to chip away. Concentrated fire to blow holes in it. And only ways to win are to be too big and fast, or be just too many. It will be interesting to hear how these armies fair against a true green tide or a true host of nids. Don't know how it works out, but a wall of Hormagaunts in your face on turn one would probably upset the guard, especially if concentrated in a couple areas. Once in contact the guard would be slaughtered.
