Well, it's been more than a month, but still an improvement over my recent posting habit
I didn't get all of the fish elves done for the November challenge but did get an elf done along with the fish


and for December I Got some dwarf warriors done. Ran out of time a bit and rushed the banner runes, wasn't sure what colour to do them in and plumped for dark red. Didn't really work out that well IMO, but better than nothing. Might go back and redo as an NMM effect, I think that would work better. Or maybe do a more glowing red for an 'active rune doing something in battle' effect. Any thoughts/better ideas?

I've been using the monthly painting challenge as a bit of a crutch/motivation piece too.

Your metallics and basing have always been a strength and that comes through in these two units. The banner's also great for the dwarves - love how it ties into the shield, and the diversity of their beards.

Lovely work on the fish elf! His shield is a real eye catcher and the base accoutrements for both are stunning. As ever I’m always impressed with the smoothness of your highlights and the dwarfs show that off fantastically. Is there a bigger unit following on behind?

Thanks Tzurk. I find the painting challenge to be a double edged sword - it always forces me to paint something in a month which is a plus, though it can derail a project if it doesn't fit with a theme and I need to focus on something else (and I have entered something each month for the last three years or so and don't want to break the streak!). I really don't enjoy painting the metallics, but do like how they turn out, hearing that others like it makes the pain feel more worthwhile! I still think that the banner runes need more work, but I'm not in a rush to meddle more.

Thanks Gobert. I really need to finish those fish elves before I forget how I painted the first one, but they are slipping down the queue... Maybe appropriate for a fish based faction? I enjoyed painting those dwarfs, and indeed there are more in the painting queue. Though currently I'm not adding to that unit, the initial inspiration for those dwarfs was playing Mordheim, so the next models in the queue are from different units, some double handed weapons and crossbows. After that I'll just need an engineer to complete all the models I'll need for that game. After that I'll hopefully get around to completing some units.

So what's on the painting bench? Currently it's some more dwarfs armed with DH weapons and crossbows. Got some unexpected extra progress on these guys today as the office was unexpectedly closed for engineering works and my job role doesn't blend well with working from home!

There are also some Legions Imperialis tanks, Goblins and Horus heresy Iron warriors sitting on the window sill awaiting the attentions of my brushes
