When they say bring lasted ed of your codex does a PDF copy fulfill that or does it have to be a print copy? in the ard boys i played at on sat I know that the person i played against use a PDF copy of the Dark angels Codex for his army. It will most likely be the last ARD Boys i play in.

I guess this depends on 2 things.
First: Does GW supply a PDF copy of the Dark Angels Codex?
Second: was it on a jump drive with no way to read it ... lol

The point of that rule is that he can show you any rules you question. Whether it is an original, a print-out of a pdf or a laptop/pad/e-book reader.
However, many stores holding a tournament will kick you out if you brought stolen intellectual property they sell. In my store someone always uses his macbook as codex, but he is only allowed to do so if he also brought the original codex along. Cell phone is really bending it. I would call a TO over in that case.

So long as having a PDF copy of your codex is legal in your country (in some it is, some it isn't) and it's a clean and accurate scan, I can't see why it should be a problem.

IMO viewing it on a 2"x1" phone display is a problem.

small text, hard to read, painful to navigate. Time consuming.
Hell at our store that'd be considered stalling and get you kicked out of a tournie, asides from the fact that so would showing up with a PDF ... especially a PDF on a phone ..

I suspect you would find that most PDF- or eBook-capable phones would have a bigger screen that that...

Almost every phone which can display more than 8 colors usually has some kind of pdf reader included, with displays even smaller than that.

Sounds like he beat yu pretty well and arejust a little sore because he didn't brng a fullcopy of his codex. Get over it, it is only a game treat it as a game and don't sweat the small stuff.
If you thougt at some point he was cheating, you should have contacted a TO.
P.S. The pdf file may have just been the FAQ, it is rather helpful for DA.

There is a point to made here. Especially in America where our lawyering has brought intellectual property rights to the forefront, i would bring up the issue to the store owner. Intentionally breaking US law and refusing to support the store which provides the models and/or tables you use to play are grounds for reprimand.

That point seems to be made on the assumption though that he hadn't bought the codex.
Having a PDF copy doesn't necessarily mean that he doesn't also have a print version of the codex. It's not uncommon for people to have both, as some people find it more convenient to have their laptop or iphone or whatever with them instead of lugging around a bunch of books.
And while distributing scanned PDFs of codexes is fairly universally a no-no, having such PDFs (particularly where that PDF is a backup or format-shifted copy of a print book you own) is not.

Point i am not sure about losing to him i got beat far worse by a Gray Knight player The score for the DA vs BA game was 15 to 9 and the GK vs BA was 22 to 0.
It was ask how strict they were with the rule in ard boys tournaments. I do not think he was cheating in that game. the only I think was a little off of what he did was play a faction that is does not normal play. in fact all his model use were painted in the white scars pattern.. This was the first time he has played DA and he said he did for the ability to make terminators troops choices and deep strike them the first turn. After playing I would like to read the rules for my self but i do not have a copy of the DA codex. So I am more informed about them but do not want his PDF copy because break any copy right laws. and the store was out of the DA codex so i could buy and i know he does not own a print copy of the codex.
As for contacted A to there was no TO for the Tournament i play at it was or less run buy the players.
The reason i most likely not play in again is because i want to play 40k for fun and to get of stress. when I play in this i was taking the game to seriously like I did when i was Played Star wars CCG. It was just the style of game i want play. Automatically Appended Next Post: insaniak wrote:Night's Blood wrote:There is a point to made here. Then that's ultimately down to the store and whoever runs the tournament. While it's not their job to police copyright infringement, they're certainly within their rights to insist on players providing print versions of the applicable rules.
But that's something that they would have to enforce at the event, if they were so inclined.

Unfortunately in America this is not true. They are considered one and the same. You're right though, having a scanned copy IN ADDITION to a hardcopy would be perfectly acceptable. ( i honestly didn't consider it.)

It's just as illegal as pirated movies, music, games, etc.
It happens alot, but in general is kept in your house. Or for sale at a vendor stand.
Each their own, however I feel GW should have stringent rules for tournies of which the main one should be to have your CODEX and Rulebook at the ready

For casual play, I probably wouldn't mind so much if the person used... "borrowed" means by which to play. but if you are in a tournament setting and have actually bought the army, buy the friggin codex, honestly... that is just poor wargaming IMO!

Having the scan in addition to the hardcopy was what I was talking about from the start. Just having the PDf would indeed be an infringement in most of the western world at least.

On a phone, whether or not it was a iPhone, Androd, Blackberry, is poor sportmanship. I use the iPad for my army book because my hard copy went missing. My LGC knows that it is missing becuase I bought it there and I harse him that he put it back on the shelf and sold it. If was playing a tournament at another store, I would buy a replacement book or borrow one.
'Ard Boyz rules are you need to rulebooks and any other books. With the WYSIWYG rules and Non-GW models not allowed, I would say PDF verisions and photocopy versions of the armybook is disallowed also. That would be up to the gaming center to enforce.

I wouldn't play if someone only brought a PDF copy of the rule book and not the real codex. It just seems wrong. If you want to play this game, make sure you have the rules.
This doesn't change for those that "lost" their copy. If it's gone, buy a new one and write your name on the cover in sharpie.
As far as bringing a copy in addition to the real codex, go for it. I often reference an online version when I don't want to bother going to pull mine out of the bag. This also helps with making sure your's doesn't walk off when your at the store.
Models on the other hand I could care less about: use whatever you want that looks close to what you are calling it.
