Hey Dakka,

Just a fast question; do the Flesh Tearers follow the standard Blood Angel helmet color designations (Red for Tactical, Yellow for Assault, and Blue for Devastator?) I've checked my Codex and the Lexicanum, but both haven't said a word on the subject.

Thanks!

They're definitely a bit "non-codex" in their doctrine...you could get away with a non-standard paint job, I would think.

Alles klar, eh, Kommissar?

In the BA codex, the shot of the flesh tearer looks like an assault marine without a jumppack to me and he's got a black helmet.

FWIW I'm planning on all black helmets for my chaps, and maybe colouring up the helmets of the sarges of the non-assault squad (although manly men that play FTs only use assaulty troops anyway!). Can always avoid by doing anti-OH&S helmetless sergeants as well.

Fwiw, I tried to paint up my assault marines with a yellow combat stripe down the middle of the helmet (black). They ended up looking like the Pittsburgh Steelers, so I scrapped it. I also tried a couple of the other colors using the marine painter at B&C, and none of them looked particularly good.

I'd say go with the black helmets.

What I have seen done differently in different places related to shoulder pads (and might help to address the helmet question).

On mine, I've done left shoulder with the FT icon, and on the right pad the appropriate blood drop to designate company. I've seen other use the right pad to put a tactical symbol, assault, etc.

So, you could use the standard codex squad markings on the shoulders rather than the company designator. Seeing as how there are very few FT left, I wonder how strictly they'd follow company related markings.
